Donating Blood: Exercise before??

Need advice please! I am donating blood today in the late afternoon but I wanted to get in a workout during my lunch break since I know I won't be able to exercise after. Would this be okay? Should I pass on the workout?

I've donated for years and have never had any issues, but I never worked out on blood donation days either.

Any help is greatly appreciated!!

    Remember to hydrate a lot.

I donate very regularly and I work out beforehand. I make a conscious effort to drink a lot more water and orange juice that day.

Back in High School I donated and then played football that afternoon. I remember I drank a ton more water that day than normal but still did fine.

It's your body, listen to it, give it what it needs.

I usually do workout in the AM on days I am donating. As the previous post mentioned, drink plenty of water!

I usually donate platelets so they stick me in both arms and wrap both when I'm done so I can't bend them, so working out after is really not an option! But when I used to donate whole blood, I would feel a little weak for the rest of the day, so I wouldn't have worked out afterwards anyway.

But as long as you are hydrated when you show up to donate, and don't have to take pain-killers to get through our workout, working out before hand is fine.

And yay for being a blood donor!

Thanks!! I really appreciate the advice. I got my workout in and have been drinking lots and lots more water. Plus having a good lunch so hopefully all goes well. I'm sure it will.

    Thank you!!

I am told not to but when I go donate they know I walk there. its only a mile and half away. they tell me to take it easy when I walk there and when I walk back and to hydrate and eat well before I go. Just plan on making it a low impact day
