How long did it take to lose?

I want to lose 20Lbs ( I really need to loose more) by September. I started at the end of June but it doesn't seem like I am losing weight I have lost a couple of inches but I don't have a scale, so I'm not really sure if I lost anything. So I was curious as to how long it took anyone to lose 20Lbs with basic diet and exercise, is it possible to lose 20lbs within 2 months or am I expecting too much?

    Hi :

    Welcome to MFP.

MFP has been an extremely useful tool for me towards a healthy lifestyle.

You will lose body weight, if you are eating at a deficit ( calories burned more than calories ingested).

As for timeline, do you remember how long it took you to acquire those extra 20 lbs ? It will probably take you as much time or maybe more time, to lose them. Please manage your expectations accordingly.

One suggestion, use body measurements ( waist, thights, wrist) to monitor your progress. Sometimes scale does not move but your body changes in shape.

Good luck in your healthy journey. All the best.

I was 215lb from August through April. Then I changed my diet to a deficit with the expectation of losing 1lb per week. The first week of May i dropped to 214....now I am 199 so I'm pretty much on track.

1lb a week for me with roughly a 500-1000 cal deficit. 6ft somewhat athletic build.

20 lbs in 2 months is steep but doable.

I am currently losing 9 lbs per month but if i didn't exercise 40-50 minutes every day (which bumps me up to ~1750 kcal) I'd have to stay under ~1250 kcal per day, which is a pitiful amount of food (at least for my 182cm, 80kg and my taste).

Anyway, you'll have to cut around 1150 kcal per day. Good luck.
