I'm just curious about whether anyone here has kept records of how many push ups they were able to do, and what rate they were able to increase it? Thanks.

I'm in the Army so have done millions of them. I get tested twice a year and do 73 in two minutes (that gives me the best score in the Army for my age group). I can probably do 80 though but don't get anything for the extras. The most I ever did was 99 though, I couldn't get the 100th rep because my mind was messing with me.

edit: this is a pretty good program for improving your pushups http://hundredpushups.com/ Also google Stew Smith, he's got a bunch of programs.

I have records from when I started doing them (January) until now. I was very out of shape (like bump on a log out of shape) so I could only do knee push ups, then incline push ups, and now regular push ups.

I can do 19 full push ups in one minute. I don't know how that rates because I haven't found a chart that lists full push ups for women. Earlier this week, I did a 60 second test as part of a fitness assessment. They made me do knee style and I did 30, which according to their chart was excellent but other charts is good. I think I could have done more but they had me max out on the chest press machine right before I did them.

Jemhh, how quickly did you increase? You didn't say how much you started off at, but now you can do 19 full push ups in one minute. How quickly did the numbers increase? Thanks.

I just checked and it looks like I started in February, not January.

    2/17/14 - 3 sets of 5 (knees)
    2/19/14 - 3x5
    2/23/14 - 3x5
    2/24/14 - 3x6
    3/2/14 - 2x8
    3/4/14 - 2x9
    3/6/14 - 2x10
    3/8/14 - 2x10
    3/10/14 - 2x10
    3/12/14 - 2x10
    3/15/14 - 2 sets of 5 on knees and 5 on incline
    3/17/14 - 10,10,5 all incline
    3/19/14 - 3x10
    3/21/14 - 3x10
    3/24/14 - 3x10
    3/26/14 - full/incline sets: 5/5,3/7,4/2
    3/28/14 - 5/5,5/5,3/7
    3/30/14 - 7/3,5/5,4/6
    4/1/14 - 10,7/3,5/5
    4/6/14 - 7,4/3
4/13/14 through early July I was stuck at 3 sets of 7

Once I started giving myself more days between workouts (3+) I went up to 2 sets of 15. I did the 19 in a minute last night. That's about it.
