We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails

Whenever I start to try to be healthier, it seems like there is always something that comes up that easily sways me. Or better said, that I ALLOW to sway me from my goal. I quit smoking about two years ago and got the expected weight gain. Then, other obstacles arose in my life and I resorted to eating and/or sleeping to deal with them so as to not resort back to smoking. I found myself with little to no energy and slowly but surely felt my clothes get tighter and tighter. 50 lbs later and at my heaviest ever, I have decided that I am the only one that can make the change. If you want something done well, you have to do it yourself right?
I am the only girl in my family of five. My boyfriend and three boys (7, 7 and 12) can eat anything and a lot of it. However, they don't want to eat any of the healthy foods that I make (the youngest does sometimes). My boyfriend actually wants to gain weight and that REALLY doesn't help! So as much as I used the "I don't want to make two dinners when I come home" excuse, I had to take the initiative and eat better MYSELF. I have found that MFP makes it so easy for me to monitor what I eat. It's quite a motivator to actually see how many calories you are eating in one meal.
So, I am done with the excuses. I have all of the tools to achieve my goals and it would be such a waste to not use them. My subject line says "We cannot direct the wind, but we can adjust the sails". Obstacles (or excuses) will come up like being tired, busy or whatever. We have no control over that, but we can work around them to still get to where we're going and achieve our goals.
Having support while losing weight is extremely necessary. Good luck to everyone on here. I will not let anything redirect me from my goal. If you find yourselves feeling like life and the wind are pushing you away from yours, let me know and I will try and help you readjust your sails

We can direct the wind - meaning we can TAKE control of our lives, our choices and CHOOSE to make the better choice rather than to make the excuse.
Excuses are the easy way out to keep repeating the same or similar behavior without having to make any REAL changes.
When the mind set shifts, our whole temple (Mind, Body, and Spirit) shifts right along with it.
Good Luck to you on your journey. You are "getting it" and you will do just fine!!!0
