Health Club Accountability, Join and GO

After two days of confusion over getting the corporate rate, I'm finally officially a health club member. I have to go at least 48 times by Dec. 31 to get reimbursement from my insurance company, which means 2-3 times a week. Money is a good motivator for me, especially when added to my motivation to lose my mid-life extra pounds (50 yr. old flabby woman here with 35 to 40 lbs. to lose). Between the pool, an excellent variety of classes, and the club being not even five minutes away, I have no excuse to slack off.

Still, I'm only human, so I'm adding public accountability. I know the majority of people who sign up for health clubs are gung ho at the beginning, then slack off. In years past, I had long stretches of club going and/or a great home exercise routine, so I know I can do it. I regained weight I'd previously lost due to work circumstances that gave me little free time and kept me sedentary most of the day. Now I'm on a sane work schedule, so there are NO EXCUSES.

If anyone else needs to place to check in for some public accountability with getting off the couch and out to the club, feel free to chime in. I'm committed to checking in here myself to keep up my motivation. My first workout will either be tonight or tomorrow, as I'm going through the class schedule and making up my weekly routine. I'll share that here once I decide the days that make the most sense. Once I get myself halfway into shape, I'd really, really like to add C25K too, but I need to build up my stamina first.

My husband added me to his Y membership a few months ago and I have yet to go :blushing:

I am far from being a couch potato... I normally walk a minimum of 10 miles a day (today being a notable exception) but I do need to ad resistance. Been talking about it for a while but not doing it. Hopefully you will inspire me :)

I wish you the best of lucks and keep us posted.

10 miles? Wow! You definitely don't need to hit the Y! I enjoy walking and having a dog, so that's the only thing that's probably kept me from ending up on a TLC reality show over the past couple of years. That's why I really want to give C25K a try, to see if I can ramp it up a bit.

Okay, it's Day One of accountability. The gym has Les Mills classes, so I'm going to try out BodyFlow today at lunch time. I'm planning to focus on that and yoga for classes and to do my cardio in the pool and on long walks at home with the dog. Only 47 more visits to go by December 31.

I dug out my workout clothes from a couple years ago, and it's discouraging to see how tight they are on me now. But hey, it's a reminder that I CAN lose the weight because I did it before and a good incentive to do so again.

BodyFlow whipped my butt, so I've been stiff for the past two days. I see that as a good thing. I'm going to head to the club shortly and hope I can get a lane in the lap pool for aqua jogging. Tomorrow will be either BodyFlow again or Gentle Yoga, depending on how my body feels. I prefer BodyFlow because it's most intense and well-rounded than just yoga.

It's back for aqua jogging again tonight since work got in the way of making it to BodyFlow. I hope to do BF tomorrow since Thurs. is a heavy meetings day.

Wow, that health club deal sounds amazing! Enjoy it :-)

I recently just joined our local, 24-hr gym, so I can workout on my nights off (night shift worker here). I'm planning on using it at least the 2 nights a week that I'm off, maybe more. Between trying to get enough sleep, family and household duties, and walking all three dogs in day light, I think 2 nights a week is good enough to start with.

That sounds like a great start, and then you can always build on it. I looked at. 24 hour gym before joining the club here because I'm a night owl, but the one I ended up at is much closer to my house. Feel free to check in here if you'd like some mutual public accountability.

44 more days to go! Today was another pool day, since I typically have work to finish on Weds. afternoons, so I couldn't get away for a class at lunch time. I changed things up a bit because I usually jog my laps, but the only available lane was the deep one (6 feet). I straddled a pool noodle and got a good arm and leg workout riding it back and forth for 45minutes. It might have looked silly, but hey, it's exercise!

I've done 2 nights in a row at the gym - elliptical and treadmill. Back to work tonight :-)

Good for you! I'm planning my next session for tomorrow. There's BodyFlow at 11:15, so it's either that or the pool later.
