    in fact, i might add that it's not only the hidden costs, but the actual costs that are more expensive in processed foods..

    a very quick example: anytime you're at the grocery store, look at the cost per pound, even if you have to break out a calculator for it. a box of processed breakfast cereal, for example, is somewhere in the $7/lb family. But kale is usually, what, $1/lb? Oatmeal is usually about $2/lb? something like that? I haven't done the math in a while, so excuse some out of date numbers, and even better just do it yourself next time you're in the grocery.

    out of season food is rather costly on a number of different levels, but i wouldn't even worry about that in the beginning of making a transition.

    my bf & i eat on $50/wk for two people (that doesn't count the occasional eating out - just our regular "grocery bill") and we eat really, really well and balanced. both of us are extremely healthy (as far as we know).
