Are calories really important?

In the longterm, the body will not let you get away with this. The body will fight back, you will get very hungry, or sick or lethargic or lose motivation. Any and all of these things will happen to you if you keep your very low calories strategy up.
There are sound scientific reasons and explanations for this. The person who explains it best is Dr Amanda Sainsbury Salis in her book The don't go Hungry Diet. She is a world class scientist in this field.
Even if you are eating a healthy amount of calories you can experience the body's rebellion against weight loss. She explains this too.
If you want to be slim in the long term, you should eat more not less but always of the most nutritious foods. eat from a wide variety of nutritious foods.
And don't ignore fat. Fat is essential for health. Low fat diets have been shown to be more unhealthy than low carb diets. They work less well. But how much fat is needed. I"m not sure exactly myself. A useful rule of thumb might be about 25-30% of daily calories should be fat. Eat mostly fish fats and olive oil but a bit of dairy fat or saturated fat won't hurt you either.
Fats are essential for the well functioning of the body. The body can make some fats if the diet is lacking but not all. e.g. omega 3 and 6. These have to come from the diet. But if you calories are too low, the body will struggle to make what it needs.
I suggest you do some serious reading up on nutrition and the body's needs.
if you want to keep slim and maximise the value of your calories, abandon refined sugar.0 -
