This will be long. Just a warning.
I have a cousin that is 4 years younger than I am--she's 20. She used to be like a little sister to me, but I don't talk to her on a regular basis anymore. She doesn't work, go to college, basically she is a spoiled brat that sits at home all day. Her parents are always broke and on the verge of losing their house, but they still pay for anything she wants.
When I started losing weight, she became extremely jealous. She told my entire family I was doing Nutrisystem, but that couldn't be farther from the truth. The other day, she posted a picture on Facebook and she was wearing a shirt she said she hadn't worn since high school. She talked about how her hard work was paying off & her mom (who is creepily over-involved in her life) commented and said how proud she is of her and how big of an inspiration she is. However, I couldn't tell that she had lost any weight, but clicked the "like" button anyhow.
So, that brings me to the topic of my post. Today my niece, who is her best friend, told me that my cousin had liposuction done at the beginning of May. She took out $15,000 in loans from 3 different banks. This blows my mind!! They literally have no money to their name. How on earth did she get those loans?!?! Oh, and now her parents are paying the loans back for her. Idk what to think! I mean it isn't any of my business, it just drives me crazy she can't do it the correct way. She is young and has no health problems. She's just lazy. She is probably 60 or so pounds overweight (give or take 10.) I have also noticed that the past couple of months or so, she seems like she has actually put on quite a bit of weight. Is this normal? It blew my mind that she had had lipo, because I just noticed two weeks ago how heavy she has become. I mean for that kind of money I would think some kind of results would be evident by now, right? She apparently has been overeating because she thinks the fat cells will not regrow, which I guess is causing her weight gain in other areas?? Ughh IDK if I am asking for advice or just venting, because nobody else in my family knows about this. I'm frustrated because I have worked hard these past few months, and here she is talking about how "hard" she has worked when she hasn't done anything other than go lay in a doctor's office. Besides, I thought liposuction was more of a structural fix for problem areas and not something for weight loss?? Perhaps I should mind my own business, I just needed to rant. But if anyone can fill in the blanks for me, that would be great!

Also, I'm not trying to step on any toes. Everyone has what works for them, but I believe everyone should be fully honest about HOW they are losing weight if they are going to brag.

This is a fine place to rant and you are justified to have a good, short, rant, and then let it go. She's on the downward path and, unless she indicates she is interested in learning and adopting better life skills, she's doomed. Only she can change anything about herself. You can't. But she's probably not fooling anyone and eventually won't even be fooling herself.

So, where does this leave you? Feeling a little better from having the rant with perfect strangers who don't know her and won't tell her about it, then sorry for her a bit, and then disinterested enough to stop paying attention to her.

I worked in a place where our motto was, "I'm okay; you're not." And that's the case here. You're okay; she, sadly, isn't and may never be.

And keep your wallet firmly closed anytime you are near these people!
