I feel like this question may be redundant, but I a, so discouraged and confused. A week ago today I started my weight loss endeavors. I did well, ate maintenance just to see how many calories I was eating. I had one day where I probably ate 2000 calories over my TDEE. I just started weight training a week ago tomorrow and I got on the scale today and I was up 7 lbs.... Yes 7 lbs. how on earth?? I know it is not necessarily fat, but how in earth and why did I gain this weight? I want to curl up into a ball and cry, hahah! Okay, slightly dramatic, but I just don't get it. Can someone explain it to me? What should I do?

It's water weight from beginning your weight training. Relax, keep up your routine, and it will work itself out in a couple of weeks.0

This it is not uncommon. What happens when weight training is the muscle tissue breakdowns I.e... microscopic tears in the muscle tissue. When this happens the body protects the tissue. The muscle becomes slightly inflamed and slightly swollen due to fluid retention. Keep up your workout routine and in a week or two you will notice a decrease in the scale.0 -
I have also heard this is pretty common when you start lifting weights, changing up your routine etc. I have just started a new gym program with weights and have chosen not to weigh-in just yet for this reason. Even though it's likely temporary, I can imagine it's discouraging. Keep at it and good luck with your journey!0

Thanks for the comments, gosh, I hope it is temporary... I just don't understand why my body is responding like this. Ah! It is maddening. Lol0 -
