Lose weight but can't exercise much

So I've been having knee problems in my right knee lately after jogging. I'm not pushing my self to hard. I am doing week one of c25k. But I haven't been able to do much for almost 3 weeks now since every time i jog my knee starts to hurt. It isn't like sharp pains it is more like the muscles around it aren't supporting it, in other words it just feels weak. It will even start to act up now when i go up and down the stairs too much or walk for too long of a period. I didn't twist it or doing anything obvious to strain anything. I'm not sure what to do. When i stand still it feels like my right knee wants to hyper extend. Any advice on what to do here.
I want to stay somewhat active so i can get back on track with my weight loss but i don't want to do serious damage to my knee.

Are your shoes properly fitted?
Do you stretch after jogging?
If you feel your knees are weak - perform specific exercises to strength the vastus medialis, focusing on stability and slow increase in range and/or weight used:

and IT band exercises:
