Crunches/Leg Raises vs Sit Ups

Options
Hey guys! I'm here with another newbie conundrum ...

I tried to do the 30 day abs challenge and only made it to day 10 before quitting. The crunches, leg raises and planks were almost "fun" or at least I didn't feel like gouging my eyes out after doing them. But the sit ups ... oh how I loathe thee. I used my dresser to hold my feet to do them and I hated every singe one I did.

I suppose my question is can I do just crunches, leg raises and planks to build strength in my core and not bother with the loathsome sit ups? I don't know why I dislike them so much but I do. Or are they necessary because they hit some strange hidden muscles in my core that the other exercises just wont get?

Thoughts?

Leg raises are fine. You never really need to do a crunch or a sit up. Planks are good, also try hollow body holds and bridges. While the bridge isn't an ab exercise, it is good for your core/back in general.

I loathe sit ups. They hurt my toes. I like planks, though, and would definitely suggest trying them.
