40lbs in 20 weeks...hmmm probably not.
with that to lose 1lb a week is a good healthy rate.
Weight loss is all about a calorie deficit, exercise is for health...yes you can increase your deficit with exercise but you need to eat some of those calories back to fuel your next work out.
No don't cancel foods out just eat them in reasonable portions and stay in goal...
Is it realistic...no
can it happen...it can but I wouldn't recommend it...0 -
It wouldn't be impossible but it would definitely be a challenge to lose 40 lbs by Christmas. Christmas is 20 weeks away so you'd have to average 2 pounds a week. Many people lose several pounds a week the first couple of weeks and then the rate slows after that. It is usually recommended that .5 lbs to 2 pounds a week is a safe weight loss, with the rate decreasing as you get closer to your goal.
The key is to create a caloric deficit, whether it is by eating less or moving more. The best exercise is whatever you will stick with.0 -
It's not impossible, but at your current weight, it would really be difficult. I would worry less about lbs and more about steady losing by kicking up the exercise and making sure you are eating healthy and keeping a deficit. Don't set yourself up with an unrealistic goal that will ruin your progress if you don't reach it or will encourage you to do things that could be detrimental so that you can. Whatever you decide, best of luck to you, here's hoping that by Christmas you've lost some of those lbs and feel fantastic about yourself.0

It's not impossible, but what happens if you don't manage it? Will you feel like a failure and give up completely? Will you feel just as good if you just focus on a smaller amount? Do you really need to set a weight/time limit to make a positive difference to your health?
That rate of weight loss isn't impossible, but it could become all-consuming and probably not emotionally healthy.0 -

Have you also thought about the fact that not only have you set out to lose a lot of weight in a relatively short amount of time but that you are also choosing to do it during the holidays? One thing I have found is if I totally limit myself from enjoying foods I like, I get fed up and discouraged and I end up falling off the diet wagon. It's important to limit the unhealthy foods but allow yourself to indulge in moderation. This is, in my opinion, the only way to make weight loss permanent. I would lessen the amount you are trying to lose and account for the holiday season and the fact that you may want to indulge here and there on your favorite holiday foods (in small doses). Just because you are trying to lose weight doesn't mean you shouldn't still enjoy the holidays. I also find it to be less daunting to break up my overall goal into smaller, more manageable ones. Set a date closer in and your goal to lose 10lbs or even 5lbs. Reaching smaller goals helps motivate you to keep pushing forward to the bigger overall goals. Good luck!0
