They are in a large fenced in area with a big 10x12 dog house. I think someone grabbed the Greyhound through the fence and held him while hurting him. The little one, I think they just opened the gate and she ran out and then laid down for them to pick her up. She's very freindly but I noticed now she is not so freindly to strangers. She pees when someone (even me) tries to pick her up. I am definately going to file a report tonight when I get home from work. They (police) will probably think I am crazy but oh well. I'd rather be known as the crazy lady than the lady with all the hurt animals.

Maybe, try to contain them inside the dog house or add a small & tall privacy fence inside your current fence. It sounds like you really need to keep them out of reach / sight. If these people are that sadistic, who knows how far they will go.
Your babies must be so freaked0 -
Get a lock for your gate, that way no one can get in. Just be careful, you wouldn't want anyone stealing one of your dogs. Also get a sign saying your property is monitored by camera's, it might scare them away if their scared of getting caught.0

The law is all but useless in most animal cruelty cases, as most states have very light to non-existent laws on the books. And, even then, if you catch the people doing it, the judges usually give them a slap on the wrist and that's it. I persecuted many people for cruelty and saw my fellow officers do the same when I was an ACO--some were horrible cases--and no one ever went to jail and very few even got more than a $100 or $200 fine.
Best bet is still to keep your animals--dogs and cats--inside where they're safe. Dogs are pack animals anyway and want to be with their pack, which is us, their human owners.
That is probably true in some areas. I can tell you that in my area we have put away several people for animal cruelty. Let's hope that your area is more pro-prosecution of these things Memaw.
Here inl texas (memaw and I are here) someone was slapped on the wrist for setting fire to a dog in the middle of the street. I could tell you tons of horror stories, but that won't get us anywhere - enough to say that it is usually not punished enough.

FELONY HERE IN NM TOO!....
Extreme animal cruelty a fourth degree felony on the first offense, animal cruelty a misdemeanor on the first, second, and third offense, and a fourth degree felony on the fourth offense.
Extreme animal cruelty" is legally defined as intentionally or maliciously torturing, mutilating, injuring or poisoning an animal or maliciously killing an animal.
"Animal cruelty" is negligently mistreating, injuring, killing without lawful justification or tormenting an animal, or abandoning or failing to provide necessary sustenance to an animal under that person's custody or control.
In addition, juveniles involved in animal cruelty are now required to undergo psychological counseling and/or treatment, and persons convicted of animal cruelty can be ordered by the court to participate in animal cruelty prevention or education programs.
Find out what your animal laws are for your state....so you are informed....but this sounds like to me you have 2 cases of extreme animal cruelty! When you go to report the incident to the police....take pictures or your pets....and the vet's examination documentation! Most police stations these days have CANINE "cop" units and believe me....they LOVE their "partners" just as much as we love all our "family" members!
Somethings gotta give...yes the cameras are a good idea especially for evidence but I'm also wondering if you couldn't rig their fence with an exterior alarm of some sorts. You know how the car alarms have a "warning" alarm when someone is too close and then will go bonkers for about "2" mins if they don't back off....mine does that. I think this could maybe alert neighbors at least or scare them off maybe. Yeah, the dogs could probably trip it themselves a few times but being how smart animals are...they'd probably learn real quick to stay away from the fence which is probably a good thing.
Or Shoot....an electric fence.....that'll keep the A-holes from reaching in there! My grandmother has one....the dogs learned really quick to stay away....and so did the strays that use to come fight with them and eat their food!
She live kinda rural so she also put up signs...."NO TRESSPASSING....VIOLATORS WILL BE SHOT!"
BLAH....oooooh I'm soooo pissed off for you.....I'd go ballistic if anyone hurt my babes! GOD BLESS you and your babies....Obviously we all are animal lovers!
**Keep us posted!*** Hope you get these guys!...so they can hang em high'0 -
I called the aminal control in our area. He is sending someone out this evening when I get home from work. He said of course without proof there really isn't much that can be done. But at least I am making a report and if anything else were to happen it's documented. I am still going to install cameras and motion sensor light. Thanks everyone.

Well, that's a start.
If you need the North Carolina Appalachian Highland Resisitance (we are like pirates, you know, 'AHR!!!') to come bust some heads, just let me know.0 -

Haha, well, not so much.
My friends and I decided that we wanted to be pirates, so we started the 'Appalachian Highland Resistance' Aka 'AHR!!!' but seeing as how we are in the mountains we were without a large body of water to plunder. So we decided to become river pirates, but much to our chagrine, there isn't a whole lot of trade traveling down the New River these days. So we are having to turn to other endeavors. Hunting down people who are cruel to animals seems a decent venture. Probably doesn't pay as well as piracy, but it's just as satisfying.

Record and report.
Violence towards animals leads to violence towards people as sick people escalate their behavior. Also, I would talk to any pet-owning neighbors, both to see if they've had similar problems, and to warn them to protect their four legged friends.
And, if I caught them in the act. . . well, let's just say it wouldn't be pretty.0 -
So I did call the sherrif's office/animal control. They came out but said nothing could be done until I had proof. I knew that but at least there is a record of me calling. When my neighbor saw the sherrif's truck in my driveway she immediately came over to see if I was okay. That was very comforting. But when I told her that I needed to know if any thing had happened to her 2 dogs she said that they both had passed away. I just felt my heart drop to the floor.
I felt soooooo bad for her. : Freckles died of kidney disease and they were shocked because she was so young. TC was just really old and died of old age. Man I felt horrible!
My husband and I will be shopping for cameras/lights this weekend. Punk is getting better although he is very very sore. He ended up with 20-30 stitches. Poor baby.
Thanks for all your support guys. I really really appreciate it!!:flowerforyou:

Yeah, file a report for sure. I like Fat Dancer's idea about the survellience system... that might be worth looking into. I can't stand animal cruelty!!! I am such an animal lover!
Will your dogs approach any one???
Keep us posted... I want to know what's going on and how it gets handled.0 -
[Will your dogs approach any one???
Punk, the one that got hurt, does not know a stranger. He loves everyone. Chloe, well if you open the gate, she'll run right out and if you use a loud voice she will lay down to be picked up. The other 3 won't approach anyone. I don't know if anyone would be brave enough to approach my Doberman but maybe with some snacks or treats they might be persuaded.
I will definatle keep you posted on the situation.

O' and take pictures of all the happenings... pictures can't lie!!!
