In a Motivational Slump

Hello, All!

Wow how did I miss seeing the forums here? Been a member for a couple of months now. I am at 182.5 pounds now. I started dieting at 202 pounds so almost 20 lost in 3 months. Last year I got very sick (after working 16-20 hr days for a few weeks) with viral upper respiratory illness. I spent 3-4 months very sick and I had like 3 "itis" illnesses at one point (Thyrioditis, gastritis and labrynthritis).

Long story short... I wanted to get healthy again. Not just "not sick" but HEALTHY. Part of that is losing weight. I tried a couple of diets before I got a personal trainer, started working out and eating mostly unprocessed foods. I have been working out 6 days a week for 1 hr (not including the walk to the gym .8 miles each way 2-3 days strength training and the rest cardio). I have been logging my food religiously. I am losing weight but SLOWLY. I know it's supposed to be harder to lose weight after 40 (I am 45) and I wouldn't mind it taking so long if it weren't for 2 things.

1. I am losing twice as much weight around my chest and hips as I do around my waist. So while i have lost 3-4 inches and a whole bra size in my chest. (DD to a D) I have only lost 1.75 inches in my waist. So as my breasts shrink my waist just looks bigger by comparison. I have lost more inches in one CALF than my waist.

2. I would mind the offset proportions if I had just lost a dress size but since my waist measurement hasn't really changed I am still the same size I was. Oh I am getting where somethings are fitting BETTER but I still try on my same old clothes and go... oh... that still fits.

Ok... well this is a really depressing post. I really hate my first post to a forum to be a downer. I am just feeling that after 3 months and 20 pounds there should be some payoff by now. I just hope things even out at some point. I will try to be more upbeat next time!

Your body loses where the stores are biggest first... guess we know how your body packs it, now, don't we? Not trying to be snarky... I just wanted to point out that you've had some serious losses (inches & lbs) and perhaps you're body is slowly getting back into its natural proportion.

I can relate to your frustration, though. I lost 40 lbs before I changed pant sizes... It was SO aggravating!!! (But I went down a shirt size. Clearly, I am a triangle pudger!) Now I am more "straight" in my build and am working towards carving out my hourglass and getting my waist/pants down another size or two. I started at 220 and am at 175 now, and MANY of my original clothes still fit.

It can be hard, but you really do need to look at the UP side... You are having success, and you are working steadily towards your goal of a HEALTHY life. Awesome!!!

Sounds to me like you are doing JUST fine. Keep up the good work!!!!
