Does anyone know of any way to estimate how many calories are burned in a given workout without having a fancy device?

It really depens what you're doing. For some activiites such as running or walking there are statistical norms for calories burned based on distance and weight .... .3 (3/10) calories per pound per mile net expenditure walking ... .63 (63/100) calories per pound per mile net for running.
For lifting it gets a lot more nebulous.0 -
Thanks for these formulas! This will help a bit with the running. I guess I'll really need to get one of the HR monitors. I do some beachbody workouts and have no idea how much I've burned.0
