Whats everyone's opinion on fasting/cleanse?

Fasting/cleansing for 3days to 2 weeks. What does everyone think about them? Ive read a lot online of people doing them to kind of restart their metabolism or to crash through a plateau?
I have a friend who did a 2 week one that he lost about 15 lbs on. The first week was like this:
day 1 - Breakfast - 1-2 hard boiled eggs, 1 grapefruit, 1 coffee without sugar/milk...Lunch-2 hb eggs, tomatoes, coffee...dinner - 2 hb eggs, salad, 1 cookie, 1 grapefruit, tea no sugar
DAY2- Breakfast - same...Lunch - 2 hb eggs, 1 grapefruit...dinner - steak milk celery tomatoes cucumber
DAY 3- Breakfast same...lunch - 2 hb eggs spinach tomatoes coffee...dinner - 2hb eggs, cabbage, cookie white cheese tea
DAY 4- breakfast same...lunch 2 hb eggs spinach coffee...dinner - 2 lamb chops, celery cucumber tomatoes coffee
DaY5- breakfast same... lunch - 2 hb eggs spinach coffee...dinner - 1 large fish, 1 tomato
DAY 6 - breakfast same...lunch fruit salad...dinner - steak celery cucumber coffee
DAY 7 - breakfast same ... lunch - cold chicken tomatoes, 1 grapefruit...dinner - steak tomatoes, cucumbers tea
He did this and the 2nd half the plan for the 2 weeks to break through a plateau and then resumed a normal healthy diet and work outs and didnt notice any weight gain.
I am in no way condoning this as a long term solution and anyone who would try this example I have given for more than a week or two is asking for trouble and should consult a professional for both diet/exercise but also mental health.
Bottom line is how do you all feel about fasting/cleanses to break a plateau or to drop the final couple pounds?
