I'm just starting this week on my journey back to health......here in the south we celebrate with food!!! Celebrate anything and everything with food. Going to Outback to celebrate a high school grad Saturday. I'm such a steak lover this is going to be a hard one. Does anyone have any suggestions or tried anything on the fish and chicken part of their menu? I certainly appreciate it!

Have the steak but get a smaller one. Steak is not fattening it's the other things that are - fries, blooming onion, cheese, rich sauces, drinks, etc So try to cut down on those and exercise more. If you go for the chicken or fish you may feel "deprived" and eat more.
And my mother was not from the south but she taught me to celebrate with food also and to eat when you are sad, happy, depressed, elated, oh well you get the idea.
Have fun0 -
Start of with a side salad with the dressing on the side. Go ahead and order your steak and only eat 1/2 then you may select steamed veggies for your side except the potatoes selections. It isn't that bad. Just make good choices. And don't be afraid to ask the waiter questions. Good luck and have fun. Melissa0

i agree, enjoy your steak, but instead of getting fries or potatoes maybe get vegetables on the side, also if they have the unlimited bread try to stay away from that or only have one peice and drink lots of water0

Know what ya mean. Not to far into the south but I love love love my steak. Thing is I really dont think a steak is bad for you. If it is lean it is really good. I know most people dont look at it the way I do but this is a source of iron for your body. I may not diet quite the way people should but if you keep everything in check you can do really well. Just remember to eat what a normal serving would be and of course the veggies. If you have some left you have lunch for the next day. So I say enjoy that red meat!0

Thanks, you know.....the idea to get the smaller steak so I'm satisfied makes good sense.
As far as celebrating by feeding ourselves, your right, it's probably not limited to the south...it just really seems that way down here. Eating is social, social, social0 -
They serve sweet potatoes there...order a baked one instead of fries or a white potato0
