Improving your running

Sorry guys, this is probably a really naive and likely an already-posted question, but any general advice on how to improve running endurance for a derpy noob?

Just to give you background, I run on the treadmill usually an average of 5 mph for about 35 minutes or so. Depending on how hard I'm working, I'm anywhere between 2.25-3 mi down per workout in that time (so I'd say an average of 5 mph in general but I can fluctuate a bit slower or faster per workout).

I'd like to get a bit more regimented with my running like I am with my strength training. I can see definite improvement in strength training i.e by the number of reps I can increase to, or the heftiness of the weight. However, I'm not really sure what kind of metrics to use for running endurance, and how I can track if I'm making a difference. I've only recently gotten into tracking fitness for personal growth, since before I used exercise as a sort of catharsis (I still do, just I'd also like to enjoy the fuzzy feeling of improvement :D! ).

Any sort of advice from all you track stars is most obliged : ) I am happily open to criticism and wisdom!
