It was hard to get started, but I'm still going and 9 lbs lighter!!! I am the only on ein my home trying to lose weight. I have a family of 5...all boys. I was always so unmotivated when it came to losing weight because everyone else in my home eats whatever the heck they want. I didn't want to make two dinners after coming home from work. But, believe it or not, I decided to just start and it's not as hard as I thought it was going to be. As a matter of fact, my meals take only a short while to make and most of the time I am eating before them :-)

I just want to say that it gets easier once you start. Support is always helpful, but we have to get the ball rolling ourselves.

Good luck to everyone!!!

Nothing wrong with them eating healthier as you eat healthier, is it? Not sure their ages, but if they are young enough not to be able to prepare their own food, they would eat what I eat and if they are old enough to prepare their own food, they would be doing that. Kudos to you for succeeding despite the circumstances!
  • Good for you!

Some times you have to be your own best support system and motivator - We cannot always count on others to be supportive of our choices, especially when coordinating meals and social activities highlights the poor diet and exercise choices others sometimes make. It can be very difficult and a struggle every day for all parties involved. Just keep reminding yourself why you are doing it and don't compromise to convenience everyone else. Good luck!

Who doe the shopping? You? Start introducing your family to healthy eating a little at a time. Don't tell them it is healthy - just cook it. Start with one dish for each meal. There are many, hearty, yummy recipes on this site - and other websites. Healthy eating is not just for losing weight. Stop buying junk and having it in the house too :-)

Congrats on making the decision to get motivated.
I can somewhat relate, it is difficult. 9 lbs is fabulous .. keep it up!
  • Wow, you are WAY nicer than I am! I'm the only one in my house working on healthier eating, too, but since I do the cooking, my husband just deals with it!! My husband will eat snacks or other stuff outside the house, but when he's home, he eats what I cooked! :)

    Thanks everyone!!

Call me selfish, but right now I'm not concerned about anyone else in my house except for me. I would love to force them to eat what I eat, but right now I don't want to sway from MY goal. My boyfriend is supportive, but very set in his own ways. His support is purely "Good job babe" support, but that's it. There are still plenty of junk food options around becasue it is what he likes. He will not touch fruits or vegetables and occassionaly will let out a "YUCK" when he sees what I'm eating....in front of the kids no less!!! And you know kids, monkey see monkey do. My youngest at the moment is the only one who will even try what I eat and most of the time he likes it, so we eat healthy together when it's just the two of us in the house.

I figure that for now it's enough of a fight with myself to stay on this path of success that to add everyone else to the mix might get frustrating and sway me from my goals. Just as we set mini goals for ourselves in our weight loss journeys with one main goal, that is how I plan totackle the family. Start with myself and slowly cross them over from the Dark Side

Still going strong at being the sole person in my household trying to get healthy and lose weight. How is everyone else doing?
