Using the stair case as a stepper

Money is tight and space restricting so buying exercise equipment is generally out, although a do own an elliptical bike thing.

I have read that instead of buying an actual stepping machine I can burn just as many calories and tone legs and thighs just by using the stairs, so stepping up and down one step rotating the stepping leg.

Does anyone know if this actually works and if so what would I log it as on MFP? I have found 'step-ups' on in the database and it says 5 minutes = 87 calories but I don't want to start including this if it's wrong.

Many thanks.
Tracy.

Step ups is wrong i think, Step-ups are generally done from a higher elevation than stairs.

    Aerobics would be my bet.

I don't know about the calorie burn (that would depend on intensity level), but you can definitely get a good effective workout using a step (or two if youre my height).

Staircases will work but I would think that the usual home staircase is to short to get your heart rate up. I would recommend finding a high school stadium and running those steps.

Or find a steep hill (like something you would go sledding on).
