Ok so I have started jogging a bit maybe 5 minutes out of the hour that I walk and I love it but here is my problem, my knees kill me. It’s kind of hard to describe but it’s like my top half wants to jog (no breathing issues) but my bottom half doesn't. I started wanting to job because I felt my legs were going so fast just walking that jogging should be my next step.
When I try to jog I am good if I try at the very beginning of my walk before my knees have any issues. Here is the best description for what it feels like.
My knees feel like they are going to give under my weight, there’s no pain just an overall weak feeling.
I am worried that I won't ever be able to jog! If I do leg exercises will that strengthen the knee area?
Any advice would be great because you guys are the best!

  • I would keep doing the intervals of running at the beginning of the walk like you are doing and maybe try a knee braces for extra support. I think running is definitely in your future, but maybe some more weight loss will help with the knee issues.
  • If you aren't doing any strength training currently I can't see it hurting the situation. I know a lot of my knee pain came from weak quads. Maybe instead of doing the hour walk split the time between cardio and strength 3 times a week. Just an idea?!:flowerforyou:

I also recommend knee braces. I use them for both knees due to arthritis. You need to get the kind that supports the patella -mine are Healy-Weber. I ordered them on-line. The first set, I got from an orthopedic specialist following an auto accident 1 1/2 years ago. they provide support and reduce the trauma to the knee sustained while walking, running, or doing other high impact activity.

Was afraid someone would say this....no unattactive LOL. Fat chick with braces on the knees will just cause more buldges on my legs lol but I'll do it!

they are unattractive, but i decided it was more important that i do the exercise so i can be more attractive in the long run. i wear workout pants that come down over the braces. health versus looks?
