Hi all,
Guessing I am not the only one here that feels like that. I am getting to the stage where my weight is pretty low (BMI of 20.2 down from about 28).
My issue being I still have a bit of a belly, From my understanding I can not loose it unless under calorie deficit and doing cardio.
More just a little rant for me to look back on and laugh.

I've been maintaining my weight, but I still see tons of problem areas. I just try and give myself new exercise challenges to keep things new and exciting. And possibly find one more thing I like and add it.
Abs are made in the Kitchen!

Sound like its time for some weight training and intense cardio like P90 or similar. Once you get as small as you are getting those last few pounds off seem to be a real hassle, but it can be done if you work hard.0

Thank you.
I have started adding more weights and core work in, at 5'8 and 62kg I just don't know how more I can loose. its ok will just keep putting in the work and hope it pays off.0 -

You are reaching the point of your journey now where you are starting to notice that your dream body wasn't just hidden under the fat all along.
If you haven't already consider a heavy lifting program and build muscle. You'll love how you look and feel.0 -
What is this cardio you speak of? Lift heavy, bro.
Your BMI is on the low side, though well in the healthy range. I'd eat at maintenance and lift.
What's your BF%?0 -

Not a fun realization. If I could only have my early 20s back0 -

Not surprisingly your are one of many to say that, being that I lift the same as a 4yr old I have concerns of gaining the wait back if I eat more.
Am starting off slow with the lifting, once I am at the point of at lease being able to lift like a 12yr old I will raise my intake.0 -

That's why she suggested eating at maintenance. You won't gain any fat at maintenance. Bulk later if you feel like it and you have a nice strength base.0 -

You've already accomplished one hard and amazing goal by losing the weight, that's +1. Work now to look better than you did in your 20's, you got this.
True story, my best friend's dad hadn't started working out a day in his life until he reached his late 30's or early 40's (i honestly forget the exact time) but today he's in his late 50's and he's still working out and much stronger than his 26 year old son and looks like he's still in his 40's.
Doesn't matter when you start, just get out there and start. Lift what you can and work your way up, everyone starts somewhere.0 -
I think a BMI of over 20 is not so low for a man. When we have a few pounds too many we often set a goal weight which turns out to be too high when we get there. I had set my goal weight once to 120 pounds (I am female) and when I got there , there were still pockets of fat left and I had to go down another six pounds before I was happy.0

this.
it's a common problem- don't feel alone. you aren't.
It's exactly why we push for people to start lifting in the beginning of their weight loss journey- no worries- it's never to late to pick up lifting!!! (yeah pun totally intended!!!)0 -

This is good to hear... I should have no problem doing it at 33 then.0 -
Start slowly upping the calories and add strength training of you haven't already.0

Well, I did basically what you did. I lost all of my weight on cardio thinking I would be happy when I got there. Of course, I got there and wasn't happy at all. Added a heavy lifting routine in Nov-Dec 2013 and haven't looked back. I have been eating at roughly maintenance since then (higher on lift days, lower on non lift days) and have seen a lot of progress. I don't know about the science and all that good stuff, but I know that I have had significant progress through with this plan. Much more physical results than cardio ever did in my opinion.

Sometimes we mistake weak muscle for fat too. Try strengthening those muscles and see if they look better. Heavy lifting not totally necessary you can do body weight exercises. They are great if you don't own weights and a gym membership is not in the budget.0

Thanks for the information mate, It really is good to see other people that have got the results that were in the same boat.Sometimes we mistake weak muscle for fat too. That is an interesting point of view, I have signed up to the gym about 2 weeks ago, have just started lifting (be it very light).
I am pretty happy with my look at the moment. it is just that last bit of stomach fat the is annoying, to be fair I was the worlds worse posture and that doesn't help.0 -
Well, everybody agree here that u need to lift .
Now Q remain should u do it while on deficit or surplus.
That's prolly personal preference more than science.
This article is good read on this subject :

That is a really good read.
am meeting with a few PTs tomorrow, hopefully they will have some goo incite0 -
I've gone from BMI of 34.4 to 24.4, size Petite Large (on a good day) to Petite Extra Small, and I feel...drum roll... Exactly The Same!
LOL. Honestly, I know I'm fitter, lifting shopping etc is easier, but I feel the same on the inside than I did before. I also see the flab rolls on my tummy and thighs, so I know I have some pounds to go (guess I'll be in kids' clothes by the time I'm done..), but I really don't expect to feel any different, or even not think I'm still overweight at least for a while.
Or maybe I just don't remember what it was like being the old me very well?..0 -
So went in for a Fitness assessment and met with a PT today.
now know my B/F is 14% but my lean muscle mass is really low.( as I knew skinny fat )
Signing up to a 12 month program.0 -
Time to put on that muscle. Look for a good PT and treat it like a job interview, you select who you want to work with you.
Make sure they take the time to show you proper form and don't be afraid of the free weights section. Dead lift, squats, bench press, power lifts are great exercises that you would benefit from.0 -

The first thing they said to me was I need to increase my calorie intake and lift.. is a 12 month plan 4 days a week. they are going to help with concentrate on muscle gain, posture, flexibility. have to say will be interesting going from less that 1000 cal a day to almost 2000.
lol they have a lot of bad habits to beat out of me. looking forward to the challenge.
made me do squats today... fist time I have ever done them... after 20 unweighted squats I was stuffed0 -
That's good they sound like they know what they're talking about. I was nervous the first time I started squats but once I started I couldn't imagine not having them in my workout routine.
Upping your calories to gain muscle is essential, I highly recommend you start using IIFYM (If it fits your macros) to make sure you are getting in enough protein, fats and carbs in your daily diet. With this method you can eat anything you want, your goal is to get as close as possible to your protein, fat and carb targets while still sticking to a calorie goal target.0 -
I just had a look. it spat out numbers almost exactly what the PT told me.
good to see this is on the right track0 -
I am dealing with that too.. Right now I am continuing to do what I have been (Crossfit/running/ballet) but I have added it a 30 day challenge for 2 of my problem areas... ABS/BOOTY. Only working on it about 8 to 12 mins a day intensely. Focusing on abs 3 days a week, booty 3 days a week and 1 day of rest. Hope to see some results by day 30.0

Keep up the hard work++ results take time but you'll see them.
I don't know if I would focus on "problem areas". Work your body as a whole and definitely check out the stickied threads "the woman in the free weights area" for advice. Man or Woman, a good heavy lifting program is what you need to get the body you want. You're doing the abs/booty workout, girls who squat got that booty. Squat, dead lift, bench, power lift and bicep curl are amazing exercises for men and women alike.
If you're interested, check out a beginners weight lifting program like ice cream fitness, you can youtube it.0 -
