Hey, I'm Jack, I'm 34 and I hail from Louisville, KY. I am married, have a 2 year old son, and work as an IT Manager for a private Catholic high school, though I am not Catholic myself. I am a Freemason, and avid poker player. I have been using MFP for just over 3 weeks after someone recommended it to me.

I've been overweight since I graduated high school. I was skinny in school, but afterwards, my activity decreased, my smoking increased and I ate too much. Then I quit smoking and blew up like a balloon. I've made a few half-hearted attempts to lose weight over the years. However, nothing like a medical scare to really get you motivated. I was told by my doctor on Nov 2nd that if I did not make major lifestyle changes, I would be diabetic within 3 months. Yikes! Don't want that, so I've been using MFP to help me limit my calories and lose weight. For my first goal, I've given myself 4 months to lose 10% of my body weight. I am almost half-way to that goal after just the first month, so I'm feeling great about my choices and the payoff.

My biggest challenges are Chinese buffets (love them!) and constant snaking/grazing when playing poker.

Incidentally, I started a blog elsewhere prior to joining MFP and learning that it includes blogging. You're welcome to check it out as well: http://fatguts.blogspot.com

Welcome! You've made the right choice to come here. It's a great place w/ lots of support. Look around and find a group that interests you. Make friends with those that support you and check in daily to log food. You've made a great start by identifying some of your weak spots.

It must be tough knowing you have a little one and then hearing what you did from your Doctor. Good for you for setting your goals! I hope you reach them! You can do it!
