Stressing about hubby's Christmas party this Saturday

I am going to have to workout A LOT that day to make up for the meal and drinks. I am hoping I have the willpower to NOT eat everything on my plate and to skip dessert.
I didn't have this issue last year because I didn't start my journey until January.
Gaah!!
I hate not being in control of the food. I know it's only ONE meal and it probably won't be such a big deal. I cannot help myself. I stress myself out over the smallest things.
Sooo in 6 days I can only hope for the best outcome and all the willpower I can muster.

It is only one party... make sure you hit the gym in the morning and then have a good time that night!

its okay to relax one day. rememeber you need to eat an extra 3500 calories to gain. have a good time and don't worry about it.

Keep a glass of water or low cal soda in one hand at all times! And talk a lot. 3500 cals is a lot easier to eat than most people realize. The average Thanksgiving dinner is over 4000. If's there is a buffet, position yourself as far away as possible. I'm not looking forward to the parties either! It's a lot of work!!! LOL.

I agree that you shouldn't worry. BUT I think, since this site is really about lifestyle change, you should have a strategy! This is what I do:

    - Definitely work out in the morning, to build up your calorie defecit!

    - eat light, but don't skip lunch! Or else you will arrive at the party famished and without judgement

    - calculate beforehand what would "fit" into your calorie allowance (for example: two glasses of wine/champagne, main dish, sides etc). You could even put it in your food diary beforehand. If it looks like too little... maybe go for another walk? In other words, go to the party prepared and have in your head what you are "allowed"

    - maybe you'll decide to forgo your defecit for the day - that's ok! But still look at your calories and PLAN AHEAD so it doesn't turn into a free-for-all!

    - At the party, focus on the people, the dancing, the laughter - and as much as possible NOT on the food/drink

    - alternate all alcoholic drinks with water. 1 drink, 1 water. Sip slowly. Makes a HUGE difference.

    - Walk around a lot! Visit everyone! Distract yourself from the food as much as possible. If you think it would be fun, wear a pedometer and try to hit a goal number of steps at the party!!

    GOOD LUCK!
  • This is meant to be a lifestyle change, and its not healthy to worry about going to a party because you will be expected to eat! You will encounter occasions where you will have party food throughout your life :-)

Don't worry, enjoy the party and forget about this for the night. Just eat sensibly :-)

Even if it prevents you from losing a lb that week, no worries, you have plenty of weeks ahead of you!

And don't forget - eat high protein, healthy meals before! Can you do egg white omelets with lots of yummy veggies (I'm picturing bell peppers and mushrooms and green onions myself) for breakfast and lunch? The extra protein will help you feel full longer, and will help you eat less.

And chug water before, during and after. I'm currently in a post-Thanksgiving sodium-induced hangover, and it sucks. So that'll combat the sodium AND keep your belly more full.

But also, like everyone else says, it's just one night. So take one of everything you want instead of two! And no need to be polite about eating to not hurt the host's feelings.

    Have fun!!
  • Don't fret too much. The most you would likely gain is 1 pound (having an extra 3000 calories, and yes it's possible since they add up fast). If you are very careful the day before and the day after and do some exercise you most likely won't gain anything. Enjoy yourself with your husband!:flowerforyou:
  • In my life, around the holidays there are a lot of "one nights" since my husband is the vice president of his company. To get me through the parties I drink lots of water & eat before I go. When I'm there I have a drink in my hand all night (either diet soda or water) and on my plate (I will find the smallest plate lol) I have mostly veggies & dip. I talk a lot & am expected to help my husband mingle so I keep busy with that too :)

Parties can be done without blowing your daily calorie goal!

    Thank you all.
I know it's only one night. I'm just obsessive with it. Not good!
I plan a good 60 minute morning workout (I do every morning) so I will have that buffer so I should just relax. I don't know how you Americans do it having Thanksgiving and Christmas back to back, lol
