Can't lose the flab!

I have been running 3 times a week (from never doing any exercise) and consuming 1200 calories for 5 months now. I was already a size 10/12 so didn't need to lose masses of weight but despite losing a couple of inches off my hips I just don't seem to look any better. I tried a bikini on today and was horrified at the amount of flab round my middle!
I can't cut out carbs as I am type 1 diabetic but would welcome any advice.

What are you eating? How much water are you drinking? Do you push yourself when you run?

Granted I don't drink enough water....I do push myself when I run I'm starting to run further now. Still only at 5km though at the minute. I have to be careful because of my irritating diabetes!

That's great! Keep up the running; water is extremely important! If it's a flavor thing for you, try adding fruit to it. Strength training will also help, but diet is key to weight loss. It's not how much or how little you eat, but rather the quality of the fuel you put in your body.

As a former competitive runner, I can say that running is great cardio and your leg muscles may tone up, but you'll need a little more than running to strengthen and tone your core and upper body -- sIt ups, push ups, jumping jacks and a little weight training will help tone your body overall. Running 5k three times a week is good. On 'off' days, you could do some quick ab workouts -- or do a quick ab workout twice a day. I do mine before I get out of bed in the morning and when I get home from work. It's helped get rid of the 'flab' around the middle -- I'm much more toned again. There are many options out there.

Make sure you are actually and correctly weighing and counting your caloric intake. Be 100% honest and log everything (no cheating).

The best advice I have ever read is found here as it answers all questions why weight may not be shedding: http://www.acaloriecounter.com/blog/why-am-i-not-losing-weight/
