I've read many arguments on this. I want to hear something new.
Is celery is "negative calories" OR just "0 calories"? Please post your opinion and reasons why...

There are calories in celery, however your body burns more calories digesting it than it gives you in return. So, the net value is a negative calorie value, but you didn't EAT zero or negative calories.0

every thing has a calorie and celery is about 20 calories for 4oz0

One celery stick is 10 calories. Yes, your body burns calories digesting the celery, but you also burn calories digesting any other food. I would count the 10 calories in that celery stick and add to your food log. Just because you eat 10 calories of celery does not necessarily mean you can eliminate those ten calories from your log.0

technically it is true, as a single 3 inch stalk of celery is about 7 calories. Chewing burns next to nothing calorie wise (believe it or not), but digesting it will probably burn about the same amount of calories as it's worth, so while technically it's true, the affect is negligible. In other words, if you use it as a place holder to make you feel like you are eating something, then it has worth, but celery also contains some sodium, something to be aware of (though it's not super high, that same 3 inch stock has about 15 mg).0

we have no way to know how many calories it takes to digest celery... a stalk has about 11 calories, one thing we can measer calorie burn is chewing-it burns about 11 calories per hour, so if you chew on that stalk for over an hour it is negative calories lol
P.S. my gum is negative calories, it is 3 cals per piece and i will chew a peice for well over an hour lol0 -
It's definitely not negative calories, as in, you don't burn MORE calories eating it than you ingest. It MAY be a null effect from the calories consumed to calories burned ratios. BUT you'd still want to log those calories, as you've still actually eaten them.0

THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A NEGATIVE CALORIE FOOD,
You burn a negligible amount of calories chewing, swallowing, and digesting most foods. Protein and fiber take longer to digest and your body will expend energy proportional to the difficulty of digestion. You're not going to lose weight living on celery, apples, and whatever the hell else people try to say is negative calorie. Just eat and exercise.

It's called "thermic value", and it's about much energy your body expends to metabolize food. Protein has a thermic value of around 30%, saturated fat is around 3%. Fibrous carbohydrates have high thermic value, and celery already has low calories.0

IF A STICK IS 5 CALORIES FOR EXAMPLE, YOUR BODY WILL USE MAYBE A CALORIE TO DIGEST IT, ALL THE OTHER CALORIES IN DIGESTING COUNT IN YOUR BASAL METABOLIC RATE.

BMR does NOT include digestion. postprandial thermogenesis (digestion) is not included in BMR.
Personally, considering I could be up to 5 % off in a calorie prediction (food lables are allowed a % mean error in their calculations), which for me is about 130 to 150 calories, I'm not going to consider 3 to 5 calories as important. Thus they are negligible to me.0 -

cucumbers are also ridiculously low calorie wise, same with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes, salsa, et cetera. I don't generally bother counting those calories but that's a personal preference. I find it a lot of work for nothing. But then I also don't count calories for the most part which is probably why I vastly overestimate how many calories I've actually eaten in a day. Anyone want to direct me to some high calorie clean foods?0

Celery Sticks have 6 calories and it takes only 1/2 calorie to burn/digest it. The information is based out of these two links... let me know if I have misinterpreted it.
