Suddenly 30 pounds heavier than I thought I was

Hi everyone,
I've hit a dilemma in my weight progress.
See, it's been my goal to get down to 175 so I could achieve my dream of joining the military. I've been working on it for 2 years now, started at a bit above 280. I was down to 212 (I am 5'7), according to my scale, however my mother tripped over it and broke it. We were shopping for new scales at BBB and I hopped on a Weight Watchers one on display and it read 245! I just FLIPPED. I feel like I was so close to onederland to have it robbed.
I went home and hopped on my sisters scale and then HERS said 240! The weird thing is when I went back into my records from the last time I weighed that much according to her scale was when my waist was at 46 inches. It's at 41 right now. I do muscle training but I just don't think I could have gained THAT much muscle. When I go onto mybodygallery and search for other girls at the height/weight I thought I was and my current pants size I look closer to them in composition. But then, there is literally only 3 results for females 240+ who wear size 16 pants. That body composition just does not add up.
I have never been discouraged until now; It's been a very disheartening day. I don't even know how to measure my progress right now. I know weight isn't supposed to matter for progress, but it matters everything to me, because even though I can already pass the Air Force BMT grad requirements; without the weight down, I can't get in. I suddenly went from needing to lose 35 pounds to needing to lose 65 and I'm running out of time.

Scales differ often, but normally only a few pounds. I can understand you being discouraged. However you still lost the same amount of weight. You probably were over 300lb when you started. From that perspective, you are still doing an awesome job!0

Platitudes don't help so I thought the real life experience of the youtube blogger above might help? something similar happened to her, but it was because she'd been weighing herself on carpet. She weighed a lot more than she thought she did too. Sorry for not being able to give the name of the particular video!0 -
I'm sorry you had such a shock! I would be discouraged, too. But don't give up -- you've already lost a lot of weight, just keep working on it. I think the poster above may be right -- you probably weighed more than you thought when you started. You've done some good hard work, even if the scale was wrong. Keep it up!0

There is one positive to come out of this - at least you now know your true weight and can work towards your goal. Think how awful it would have been if you had got to the weight on your old scales, went to the weigh in for the military and THEN you found out you were so much more! That would have been waaaay worse now wouldn't it? And also, don't forget, as someone else said, you've still lost the same amount of weight, which is brilliant, keep it up and you'll be where you want to be.0
