I STRESS EAT CARBS : today was CHOCOLATE

OK, so I eat carbs as comfort food...depressed, TOM, etc. I know this.

Well, yesterday, the hubby finds a hole in the basement wall that could be water or termite damage. I did well yesterday..worked out twice and barely came in over my goals...but dinner was rotel dip with chips. :frown:

TODAY had the termite people out. Nope, not termites...which would actually have been a relief in some ways b/c it would have been 100% covered. Termite guy says definitely damp and obviously repaired previously. Great. We live in a 30yr old house and we are discovering over the last 7 yrs that the previous owners did cheap patch jobs on lots of things that we are having to do the major repair to. Not only that, but thanks to the economy, our house is now worth less than we paid for it and here we go putting more money in.,..money we don't have I might add.

So then I call the insurance people. It's like pulling hen's teeth. They won't even tell me if what I SUSPECT is happening is covered. Sheesh! 20 min on the phone getting transferred around. So now i have an appointment with a foundation specialist in a week to get to the root of the problem and have something to turn in to see if it's even covered.

Now we get to wait for a week and worry this will be out of pocket. I have yet another appointment I have to try to fit in around my crazy work schedule. I don't dare try to get the hubby to do it b/c he's more stressed out than I am and he might wind up with an ulcer dealing with the homeowners people.

At any rate, what did I do when I got off the phone...reached in my lunch bag and pulled out that reece's cup package that I'd decided not to eat earlier when I realized I only had 300 calories left and hadn't had dinner. Not only that, I went and grabbed another. So now I'm 54 calories over and I still haven't had dinner.

Thanks for letting me vent. It seems like every time I almost get in a position to quit the 2nd job something else goes wrong

Well that's a lot to take in, sorry things are tough for you :flowerforyou:

Well you could take a walk or do some crunches, wall pushups, whatever workout machines you have at home or hit the gym for an hour. That would bring the stress level down and bring the cal level up for dinner.:drinker:

I am the exact same . . . but in the last 6 months I have really tried hard to turn that part of me around. We all have stress and crap in life to deal with, some turn to alcohol and drugs but my drug of choice was carbs as well.

I now remind myself whenever a stress comes up . . . it is not about what happens to you, it is how you deal with it that counts. I can choose to hide and eat my stress away, then feel guilty and bad about myself afterwards . . . or I can choose to talk it out with my husband, or a friend, and stay the heck away from the kitchen until I calm down.

I create myself with the choices I make each day ~ Bob Greene

I have a sign of this saying posted at home and at work to remind me that every little choice I make will either get me to my goal, or further away from it.

Trying to meditate or call a friend or logging into MFP has helped my stress eating, plus the knowledge that it will not help to get me to my goal . . . . . .

    Good luck with this!

Ugh!! I hate dealing with homeowners insurance! Grr!! We have a leak in the roof, and of course it's raining tonight. We had an estimate to get it fixed... found out it's not actually just the roof. The shingles are fine, but the wood under them was not built right. Our house is only 9 years old, and they didn't put support beams under the roof!!! Now it's beginning to rot and needs to be replaced. Which also means a newroof. $4,200 to fix it, and the insurance company's adjuster only approved half the cost.. $2,100. We called and complained to the main office in Montgomery, and apparently the adjuster is getting fired over it. They have had several complaints about him and they think he's pocketing some money too. Ha!! We may get it all PAID in full!

Oh, yeah... I was going to say, when I get stressed I get out and go for a walk. It's usually family issues that get to me, so getting away from them for a little while helps a TON!
