Steps question

I've just set up MFP and told it I'll be using an iPhone 5S to track my steps (I actually have a Garmin vivofit but apparently it's not listed in the MFP as one of the step partners).
Am I right in saying if I do, say, a 60 minute run on the treadmill with my iPhone in my pocket/armband, I shouldn't then log the run as an activity/exercise manually in MFP, since MFP is getting steps from the iPhone 5S anyway?
If so, would it be better/more accurate to simply not have the iPhone on my person, then record the activity manually in MFP? I'm guessing not, since I don't use a heart rate monitor so those types of manually inputs are mostly guesswork/averages.

I think you want to be sure you don't double count...if you carry your iPhone all day, you'll just want an eod total...that being said, I use FitBit and never need to record anything - auto syncs all day. Best $90 I've spent!0
