Newbie Vegetarian

Glad to be here! I learned about this website through Kaiser after taking a weight management class. Unfortunately most online diet communities assume you eat meat. And if not, they assume you can just substitute tofu. I'm interested in learning how to bring more protein and less carbs into my life. I have a lot of weight around my midsection which is a health risk.Even though I ride my bike/walk almost everyday -- I can never seem to affect this midsection weight.

RE: protein. Eggs; legumes and grains together, ie rice; hummus (which has beans and tahini, so you don't even need to add another grain as it satisfies the criteria). There are some good vegetarian cookbooks out there. Molly Katzen's books are old, but good. "Fast Vegetarian Feasts" is good. I'm sure there are newer ones, but I haven't done the veg thing in a long time, so I'm out of touch. Good luck on your journey!!

Beans, tofu, tempeh, seitan, bread, quinoa, split beas, all fruits and veggies etc.
I'm a low fat high carb vegan like 99% of the time so in terms of low carbing, yeah can't help you.
I would highly suggest reading the works of dr mcdougall and the like. Carbs aren't scary.
