MFP Noob

Hello all,

I signed up for MFP in 2011 while looking for a site to track calories, measurements, etc. For whatever reason I went with Livestrong.com. I think that the time they had a better database for food/fitness tracking, mobile tools, etc. I need to lose some more weight, and when checking out sites again, I figured I'd give MFP a try as they seem to have a decent calorie tracker at this time, but more so I'm going to try to keep on these message boards a bit for support and motivation. Something that isn't cheap on Livestrong, so I never did it.

About me and my goals:

I've always had weight issues. My parent's didn't really push me about weight when I was young so I never worried about it. I was also just chubby, not super big or anything. When I got into 7 grade and above and getting into more competitive sports, I became a lot more lean, but still was fairly chubby. I was still eating way more crap than I should have, but that's what the team did so of course I did it too. I'm pretty much the same height as I was back then (sadly I somehow am shorter than I was starting high school, maybe the weight brought me down and inch?). Back then, I was a more lean 180lbs. Now I'm 185 and not so lean. That's the difference of having 2 a day practices (3 hours each) all summer plus regular practice daily (3 hours a day) plus games, etc for Football, basketball, track and baseball.

I quit playing football in the middle of high school for several reasons, and really only did track and baseball. Since I wasn't doing a ton of demanding activities like I would in football, and kept eating the same, I went from a lean 180 to a terrible 230lbs (could barely get into a 40 inch jean).

My last semester of high school I decided I needed a change. I had gotten down to almost 200lbs that summer and stayed there for a few years. Over the past few years I've bounced between 185 and 195 just in normal living. Now, I'm approaching 27 and need to make a change once and for all (so hopefully saying this doesn't jynx it). I want to get down to 160-165 for Christmas. For an ultimate goal, I'm thinking 140lbs for next July. I'm not really sure if that will be too much or too little for me as I've never been down that far. I don't want to overshoot it and realize I can't reach a goal without staying healthy, but if I get to 150 and realize that is a good weight for me I'll stick it out there, and worry about body fat %. Or if 140 still seems big, I'll make a new goal accordingly.

Hopefully I can give support as well, I think that will help me keep myself more accountable in the long run.

tl;dr - I have always been chubby, but when playing HS sports became sort of lean/chubby but once I was done with that and kept eating the same I lost control and hit rock bottom. I need to make a change and for the first time in my life be of a healthy non-obese/non-overweight size. So here I am, hoping to join a community where we can support each other!
