Stop Food-Pushers For Good
Many of my contestants on the The Biggest Loser have this problem: Moms, dads, brothers, sisters, husbands, and wives always push food on them. I tell them exactly what I'm telling you: Acknowledge these behaviors. Recognize the problems, sit the people in question down, and let them know that you are trying to lose weight and be healthy. Tell them how they can help and support you. Chances are they'll want to help and will be willing to learn new recipes so that they can cook for you without sabotaging your health and happiness.
We count on the people closest to us to support us through thick and thin. The fact that a loved one may be sabotaging your efforts to get in shape, whether they are conscious of their behavior or not, can be tough to swallow and address. Take a good look at your current significant relationships to see how they affect your life both on a day-to-day level and on a larger scale. Is anyone in your circle a food-pusher?
Sure, it seems innocent enough. These people may not realize what they are doing, or they may think they are doing it out of love. The bottom line is that their way of loving you is through food. It's time to stop it for good.

THANK YOU!!! I have food-pushers in my life and it has made it soooooo hard to stay on track. I've confronted them and asked them to help instead of sabotaging, and they usually agree. However, when my weak moments come around, they go right back to "here, have a brownie/piece of cake/ice cream/etc.". GRRRR!!!!!!
Be strong everyone...this is a hard one to break through but repetition and consistency will help them take you seriously and be more supportive.0 -
Yeah, my mother is a big food-pusher. But only because she has such terrible eating habits herself. I have actually influenced her food choices lately. She's proud of me.0

I found that food pushers will do so to some how try to justify and make it ok for them to overeat. Stand up and tell people how you feel if that who is in your life. I have and it make such a difference.0

I agree with you. My family no longer pushes food on me because everyone is making efforts to lose weight and are trying various strategies. My coworkers are likely to do this, and I often can't say no to good looking food. It is only fair that they keep in mind of your weight loss effort and just don't offer unless it is fresh fruits and vegetables.0

Friends, family, and coworkers--all make an effort to sabotage my diet plan, and I won't hesitate to tell them exactly what they're doing to me. It's as if they cannot stand to see me lose weight for some reason. During Thanksgiving I only ate one plate of food, and I only put about 500-calories worth of food on my plate.0
