Hope so, I eat 2 egg whites every morning
  • I don't know about eating them EVERY day but I'd say if your cholesterol level is good, I would think 4 or 5 eggs a week are OK. It is for my anyway. I eat at least 4 a week either scrambling them for dinner or eating a boiled one for breakfast. I just had my physical 2 weeks ago and my cholesterol was good so it doesn't seem to be bothering me.

    Egg whites are definitely better.
  • I have read from several sources (Dr. Oz and Ellie Krieger) that it is OK to eat one whole egg a day, which would be seven per week. Although the cholesterol in your body is not the same as that in an egg you want to eat them in moderation.

I like one whole egg with one egg white. All of the nutrition in an egg is in the yolk.

I eat 2 large eggs (yolks included) 5 times a week for breakfast, and have been doing so for a couple years. My cholesterol is absolutely fine. I find eggs give me enough energy to make it to my first snack or even lunch!

If you're not sure, check with your doctor :)
  • Yes it is fine - it used to thought that high blood cholesterol was directly linked to high cholesterol foods but that view is no longer current

I typically have scrambled egg whites or egg white omelette's every morning and I don't have any issues w/ it. I love my eggs and have actually been told eggs (specifically egg whites) are great for you in regards to metabolism and energy for the morning.

I love eggs too! I read an article on Dr. Oz's site that said that eggs are loaded with all the good fats that you need to have a healthy heart. As mentioned, most all of the nutrition in an egg is in the egg white, but it just doesn't taste the same to me without the yolk. I'd say everything in moderation and as suggested, if you are worried about all the cholesterol, one whole egg and one egg white. Egg's are our friends now! They aren't as bad for ya as they once thought!!

I eat 3 whole eggs every day. Just had my blood work done. cholesterol 100% normal. The cholesterol scare has been dispelled. It has more to do with genetics.

I eat egg whites almost every morning and on occasion, I'll slip a yolk in there. I think it's okay to eat eggs everyday. Lots of protein, low in fats, etc

Really? Because my cholesterol numbers for MFP are over if I just have TWO yolks. What's up with that?

I eat eggs (whites, yolks, both whatveer I'm craving) nearly every single day.
  • Definitely. Everyone that responded about Dr. Oz's article is correct - the cholesterol level in your food is not AS directly linked to your body's overall cholesterol level as it was once thought. If you see a doctor regularly and have your normal blood work done (usually they check every 2 to 5 years for cholesterol, based on your age, family history, and disease history) and there have not been any concerns about cholesterol, I'd say eating eggs on a regular basis is just fine.

When you have "high cholesterol" the major dietary concern is actually saturated fat, which hopefully most of us know to avoid or eat in moderation. Major sources of saturated fat in the Western diet tend to be meat products, but is easy to avoid with lean protein (chicken, fish) or by removing excess fat from beef and pork products when possible.

Eggs are a great source of protein and will keep you full through the morning... one study I read said that those who ate 3 eggs and 1 toast in the morning were found to eat overall 40% less throughout the day. So if you're craving them - go for it! When watching calories I have to agree that its easiest to use one whole egg + an egg white for a scramble. Or egg beaters.. I love those things :)

I don't track cholesterol but my fat is almost always over just with breakfast. firedevil.gif
  • My doctor recommends to eat a max of one egg yolk, but I can have as many egg whites as I want.

They are high in protein, and low in sodium. The protein keeps me full.

In fact I have egg whites as a snack between meals because it's the only thing I feel I can eat that will keep me full and not do any damage to me on the scale. :)

So, do you think it would taste too gross to put an egg white in a breakfast shake with nonfat yogurt and fruit?

Doubt you'd even notice it in there. TWSS

I don't think you will even notice the taste of the egg white mixed with yogurt etc. I think you will be fine. I used to use a protein powder that was made up of egg whites, and it tasted like chocolate, so you should be good. :)
