Weights?

I am trying to loose about 40lbs. Should I be doing weights right now? Normally, I do cardio and weights M,W,F and just cardio on Tues & Thur. Should I be worrying about weights right now if I am focusing on weight loss?

For me personally I am focusing on both weight loss and toning. It means losing the weight slower but I would rather be toning as I lose the weight so that I am not left with all the saggy skin and then trying to tone. I do 1 day of straight cardio and then 2-3 days of strength training / cardio combo. Good luck.0

You should probably keep doing both. Cardio is good for getting your heart rate up and burning calories. The only difference really is that when you do cardio you only burn calories actively during the exercise. When you lift weights or do strength training, you continue to burn for hours after the exercise is over. Also, if you're lifting, you're gaining muscle and muscle burns more at rest than fat. So, weights are good, but cardio is also good for overall health and endurance. I would do cardio 3-4 times a week and then concentrate on strength training 2 days a week. Or you can try to find a class like boot camp or circuit/interval training that incorporate both for a totally exhausting but awesome workout.0

I have done two circuit training classes and OMG! What an awesome work-out! I am working on building endurance to keep up!0 -
Of course you want to lift weights. Your goal is to lose bf not bf and fat free mass. Weight training will help maintain lean body mass, increase total energy output, and affects substrate utilization. Your program looks sound and you are doing what needs to be done for not only shedding the excess weight but then maintaining that loss.0
