Work advice... HALP!

VERY long story short...I was essentially promoted in my company MONTHS ago (like 6-9 months at this point) from a sales type phone position to a processing/assistant to supervisor position when the last assistant walked out. I legitimately spent the first 3 months or so learning the programs and cleaning up after the girl that quit. I was given all proper authorization codes (at supervisor level, mind you) about 6 months in.
I have asked FOUR TIMES when this will all be official and when I get the pay rate associate with this job. I keep getting the run around "we have to go through HR...red tape...blah blah blah" every time I ask. It feels like I'm groveling by now.
I'm losing tons of money here (not only hourly but sales incentive bonuses as well). I don't want to go back to the stress of sales and I feel uncomfortable going over my manager's head to HR. I like my job and I like my supervisor & manager but I'm starting to resent them both. It's effecting everything in my life (including my eating habits!)
I'm not sure what else to do! Any insight would be wonderful!

Honestly...you need to be very, very assertive. I would go to your supervisor and say exactly what you just said. Say you've been promoted and have been waiting for months, you've been counting on the money and you need this to become official.
If you get an attitude or the sense that your supervisor is dragging their feet, go to the person above them and keep on going until you get what you deserve.
Tell them that you want to know exactly what the hold up is and mention that you're going to visit HR to find out yourself.
It's a cut-throat business world out there now, unfortunately. And companies are doing whatever they can to stay afloat (which includes screwing people over on raises, etc...)

HR is there for you not your manager. You need to have HR define a plan to make your promotion official and give you your pay increase retroactively.0

I like Zebrahead's response. Best of success! :drinker: (lots of water)0

Your manager may be playing with you. My bet is he was told that he could not fill the position and is using you to get the work done. I would go to him and say something like this
I really love my job and enjoying working with you all but, since the promotion months ago, I have been counting on the increase in pay and incentives. I have asked you again and again and I feel as if I am groveling. Really - I am just asking what is due me. Again - I really love this new job and do not want to jeooprodize it in any way. Can we call (or go) to HR together and find out what the challlenge is? I cannot understand why it is taking so long and I am sure you are frustrated too! I don't want to go without your support - but I have been waiting for so long. Now it's critical because of the Holidays.

^^^ I agree with all above. My old company did this and you basically had to stand there and watch them sign the piece of paper authorizing your pay raise or it would never happen! You have to get your boss in with HR and get it done...0

Advice columnist Ann Landers used to often say: "No one can take advantage of you unless you let them".
Sounds like you've been letting them for the past 6 months. Time to stand up for what you deserve.

Yeah, don't kid yourself. As a manager in a Mid-sized company who has a direct relationship with HR, HR is NOT there for the employee, they are there for corporate support. HR would not be your advocate if it came down to you or the company. Trust me, you don't go to HR unless you have to, or what you are bringing them won't cause problems within the company.0 -

Just went through the same thing. Started the process in May, didn't get the pay raise unitl last paycheck, but....it was retroactive to May 10.0 -

^^I fully agree. HR is definitely last resort. I'm not saying I don't trust HR but I know my best interests are not going to be defended by them, only myself. I'm going to give my manager a last chance to take care of it internally before calling anyone else in.
Thanks for the advice everyone! You all are giving me the courage to stand up (for the FIFTH and FINAL time) before I leave for the day. I'm going to tell her I really like my job and it's important to me to do my job well. However, I need to be compensated for the work I'm doing/been doing. I'm going to demand a deadline.0
