According to my diary I am eating too much protien. Even if I stay under my calorie limit is this keeping me from losing wieght? I work out 6 days a week with strength training.

Nope. Going over protein is fine. In my opinion, MFP's protein recommendation is pretty low (only 15% of your calories) - I upped mine to 25%. Really, unless you're DRASTICALLY unbalanced, the split between carbs/fat/protein isn't that important, as long as you're eating healthy foods... especially when you still have a lot to lose. I've heard when you're down to the last few pounds, it makes a bigger difference and people sometimes have to tweak things.0

I have my protein set to 40%. Anything less then 30% is too little as far as I'm concerned.0

Thank You! And yes, it's from healthy sources, often from my salmon, which I am supposed to eat to help lower my cholesterol! Thanks again!!0

how do you change the % settings on here?0

how do you change the % settings on here?
My Home-->Goals-->Change-->Custom
You can custom change everything on there - I increased my fiber, decreased sodium, adjusted my sugar and changed my fat/carbs/protein percentages.0 -
what did you base your settings on?
as in how would I know how to set mine?
Know I need lower sodium and lower fat (cholesteral issues)
but not sure on the rest?0 -

I just did a lot of reading from credible sources - USDA, etc. and also based it off of what I know works for me. I naturally eat more protein than MFP recommends. Really, the split between carbs/fat/protein isn't super important, as long as you're not really drastic (like 5% fat or 70% protein or something like that). Regarding the cholesterol - eating healthy fats shouldn't have an impact on cholesterol - and healthy fats are an important part of your diet. I think MFP's default fat setting (30%) is actually pretty healthy. I left mine at that. I'd recommend you read this article: http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/nutritionsource/what-should-you-eat/fats-full-story/index.html
The AHA recommends no more than 2300 mg of sodium per day, and if you have blod pressure issues, you should limit yourself even further (I think 1500 or 1800mg/day was the limit they set for that...not sure). I set mine at 2000, but usually come in under that because I've cut out most processed foods.0 -

Glad to know, I'm not the only one with this issue. My protien is always too high yet, I'm 200-300 calories under. All of my protien comes from good sources, Salmon, chicken breast, protien shakes, etc. I'm losing inches and about 1 lb per week so I think, I'm o.k?0
