Hey everyone, I am an Onsite drilling rig medic. I live in a med shack in the bush for 24 days. I'm not allowed to leave. This makes it really hard to stay on track. I pack loads of veg and eat endless salads. I'm getting very bored of the same foods. Also produce goes bad quick. I am looking for suggestions on healthy foods or ideas that will not go bad right away. I usually eat my produce within 10-14 days then I'm stuck with my other foods... Like frozen veggie burgers which are great but you know. The only foods or recipes I make so far are protein pancakes and quinoa. Or substitute meat for black beans (canned). Please help me out

It's not the types of foods you eat that causes weight loss it's the amount of food.
If you are at a rig for 24 days is there not a mess hall of sorts? I mean they have to feed those working on the rig too.
When I choose my food it's based on taste etc. Eat some pasta with sauce and add in some veggies etc. Eggs are great if you eat them or seafood in pasta sauce. (not sure based on your list what you eat)
Rice with veggie broth and veggies cut up is good for one day then fry it up the next day.0 -

There is no camp with cafeteria plus they serve fried crap if that's the case. Literally myself in a shack.. I bring all my own food. I skyways freeze chicken which is fine. I am sensitive to bread and starchy foods so I can't eat pasta really. It's like camping and trying not to get fat. Literally. I don't eat a lot because it's so much sitting. Here's a list of some if the normal things I bring:
Chicken
Veggie burgers
Quinoa
Tons of eggs
As much lettuce and veg I can bring that won't go bad
Oatmeal
Yogurt
Ground beef0 -
I know fresh is better but canned and frozen veggies are still better than no veggies.0

Try veggies that last longer.
Carrots, squash, turnips, parsnips etc.(winter veggies)
Try gluten free pasta....with red/white sauce or pesto with seafood or chicken
frozen seafood, bacon, beef jerky is always good.
Canned meats like tuna, salmon, crab, shrimp
I despise canned veggies so I would never recommend those...ick.
Frozen are great as is frozen fruit for smoothies with almond milk and diet ocean spray juice.0 -
It sounds like you eat all your fresh produce the first 10 days or so and then have to rely on canned/frozen/boxed foods. How about buying frozen fruits and veggies, precooking meals when you are at home and freezing portion size meals that you can thaw and eat? You could also mix up the flavor by bringing ground turkey along with your ground beef. Peanut butter, almonds, cheese sticks, popcorn, dried fruit, jerky, cereal or granola.
I'm assuming you have a fridge/freezer and microwave.0 -
I 100% prefer fresh produce .. It's just what I like to eat. I will definetly get frozen veg next time. Canned veg are disgusting for sure. Granola is a good idea. You got me thinking about frozen premade meals ..possible for sure. Really appreciate the suggestions .. Totally getting sick of eating the same things every shift.0
