windows 8 stinks, can no longer access web

My son's laptop can no longer get him onto the internet:

"problem with wireless adapter or access point: NOT FIXED

Your computer appears to be correctly configured but the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not responding. DETECTED.

I have tried every possible fix, and they do not work. Just navigating around is enough to make me want to throw the comp out the window.

Keep getting those error mssgs ...

    I HATE windows 8! Did you get the problem figured out yet? I wish I could help but I have no idea! Good luck!

    I have 8.1 and don't seem to have any issues.

    My SO hated Windows 8 so much that I was finally able to convince her to try Ubuntu. I set her up with a dual boot, so she wouldn't lose Windows. That was back in April. She has not gone into Windows since May.
