How many calories are you eating? Your friends are right, it does get harder the closer you get to your goal weight, but if you are undereating, that could explain the delay.0
-
Yep--how many calories are you eating? Are you eating your exercise calories?0

I eat 1400-1600 a day but burn 400-800- I think that might be my problem my body is holding on to every single calorie- I know something has to be wrong- My body could be going into starvation mode thats a possibility- so what am I supposed to do they say give yourself a deficit- MFP says 1460 calories a day I stay within that but then when I workout it tells me to eat what I just burned I cant do that- Like last night I went over my calories for the day so i had to kick my workout up a notch to break even well 900 calories burned later it told me I had almost 500 calories extra to eat I cant eat that much before I go to bed I already ate 5-6 times a day- I think I need to go see a nutritionist I dont think trying to figure it out myself is going to work this plateau is lasting too long it is the middle of May and I have been going strong since Febuary and Im not budging on the scale something isnt right0

You're not eating enough!
You might want to start planning your day ahead of time. Set down in the morning, enter what you plan to eat that day, and plan your work-out around that; then, you're not stuck with hundreds of calories left to eat at the end of the day as a surprise.
I've found it very helpful to plan my day first thing in the morning.0 -
I think your cutting too manny calories and your metabolism is in starvation mode. Have you read the post on eating all your excersize calories and the one about the starvation mode? It works for most of us ( there are some hormonal problems that can keep you from loosing no matter what you do). From what I read you shouldn't be starving, since you excersize a lot.....So try eating all your calories and see how that goes, all you have to loose is a little more weight and it will help you in the long run when you are maintaining your weightloss... be kind to yourself:flowerforyou: the world beats you up enough0

you need to plan out yours days better then. If you don't eat those extra calories your deficit is too big. Also just to make sure , you're only set at a 500 cal deficit right? Plan out an approximate measure of your food intake and excercise the night before or the morning of. That way the extra 500 cals are spread oout evenly.0

i know how you feel!!! i dont have too much weight to lose myself and it seems to be creeping off as slowly as possible! its really frustrating, but stick with it! i know i am trying my hardest to. Try doing different workouts, mix things up a little, take a class at the gym, different exercise might help you see different results.0
-
yep, you need to plan your diet a little better. If you know your going to be working out that day, add extra food throughout the day. Even if you don't know exactly how many calories you are going to be burning, you should be able to estimate, then get close. You don't need a nutritionist for that, just the ability to plan out the day. not that I am against seeing a nutritionist, I think that's always helpful, but don't go see one just for this reason alone, I would bet that they will just tell you the same thing.0

To be honest with you I dont even know what my defecit is. MFP says to eat 1460 a day and thats to lose 1lb a week- but if I put in my BMR it says for my lifestyle I need 2200 and thats before workout- I just might be under eating I dont know..
As for my workouts I am a very busy mom with a fulltime job and a household to run- Flying solo hubby is deployed. I only do my hardcore workouts in the evenings but I do squeeze in 3-4 10 minute walks throughout the day on my breaks and on my lunches. then I come home and kick it into high gear0 -
Ok so say I just want to intake 1500 calories- so I would eat 2100 through the day then burn 600 in a workout to meet my 1500- if that is what should be done then that is what Im doing wrong- I looked at my reports and yes I am eating the recommended calories but then when I workout it is dropping my calorie intake to 800-900 so my body is probably in starvation mode0

Um, something's off there, if your BMR is 2200, then I doubt MFP should be telling you 1460, that would be 800 cals below your BMR, that's 1400 below your maintenance. Are you sure the 2200 isn't your maintenance?, even then, that's a 1.5 lbs per week average, and if you aren't eating your exercise cals, then your talking about probably 1200 to 1500 calorie a day deficit, with someone only trying to lose 20 lbs, that's just not going to work (for most people), you just don't have the fat reservese to support a 1000 calorie plus deficit, you're probably eating away your own muscle and in survival mode which means every calorie you eat is being preserved. I'm speculating of course, because A) I'm no doctor, and I don't have very many numbers to go on, but I would be surprised if I was very far off.0 -
Make sure you really know how much you're burning during exercise. Until I got a heartrate monitor, I was relying on exercise equipments and websites that were overestimating my calorie burn substantially. But with a HRM, I am finally able to plan more accurately and am losing weight. If you don't want to get one, try caloriesperhour.com; another poster recommended it to me, and I have found it to be more accurate than most sites (based on comparison with my HRM).
It is still slow going. I only have a few pounds to lose, and they are being stubborn! So I share your frustration. Keep up the good work. If you're exercising consistently as it seems, then you are changing your body and health for the better no matter what the scale says. All the best!0 -
I do believe that I am in starvation mode MFP tells me to eat 1460 and thats without working out. But since I workout so hard I am sure I need to eat more maybe on my rest days I need to eat 1460 a day- MFP says to eat 1460 a day without working out- After my workout it tells me to eat more- I just thought you eat that and workout to burn the calories you eat- I guess Im doing it wrong I will start eating more and hopefully it will work- Thank you for all the advice and comments- My body is holding on to every thing it gets a hold of- Time for morning snack lol-0
-
YES! Plan your day, eat your exercise calories, make sure you're eating what MFP suggests based upon your weight loss goals. Do that for a couple of weeks and see what happens!0

Where are you getting your calories from? I had a friend who went through the same thing. But when we looked at what she was actually eating it all made sense. She was eating those 100 calorie packs of chips and cookies for lunch and dinner along with her main dish (meat) and a little veggie on the side. Every night she was saving calories to have a low calorie ice cream or pudding. So she was not allowing herself as much food through veggies and fruits, just so she could have the fun stuff.
If you are in a real rut, try switching out all of those things for a week. Eat fresh EVERYTHING... meat, fruits, veggies, etc... I swear that all the preservatives in the pre-packaged food is what makes it hard for many of us.
Once she did that for two weeks straight, it jump started her body and she was able to get rid of those last few pounds.
Sorry for your frustration!! Hope that helps!!0 -
Pre-packaged foods are from the devil!
They are nothing but salt-laden chemical pills. My husband refers to most of it as "plastic food" because there's usually more chemicals then food in them! :laugh:0 -

If u r burning 400-800 calories a day u r porbably putting on muscle that weighs more than fat. Eventually the fat will help burn the muscle. Hang in there.0 -

Oops--think you meant to say that eventually the muscle will help burn the fat...0 -
I eat fresh fruit for breakfast a snack would be low fat string cheese for lunch I have subway turkey and ham and cheese on wheat with light condiments roughly about 320 calories no chips- for a snack I will have a salad with low fat italian dressing for dinner I have chicken or turkey grilled with a veggie and for an evening snack a protein bar sometimes i might eat a protein bar for my afternoon snack too- i dont drink anything but water- I chew on Extra sugar free gum if I need something sweet- and some days if my calories are low I will eat a muffin- Im not suffering from headaches or feeling lathargic by no means Im actually sleeping better and getting more rest- I think I just might need to eat more i can say I wasnt eating my excercise calories and I guess thats what I have to do which to me makes no kind of sense it goes against everything that you hear to do- but what do I have to lose I will give it a shot- Thanks for the advice0

I thought the same thing i am starting to see the muscle definition in my legs and arms again- Which makes me feel good that I see something besides the fat lol-- I have always had an athletic body really muscular and defined prior to having kids and getting lazy- I know my normal body is under there somewhere I will find it-0

Obvious question: Is that a recent picture of yourself??? If so, I'm not sure where exactly you would expect to burn 20 lbs! Make sure your expectations are realistic. You may not have 20lbs of fat to burn! I don't know what your height and weight are, so I can't really say that's an accurate suggestion. But so many women seem to think they should be able to get down to a size 2 if they just try hard enough - but that simply isn't true. I see plenty of size 6's and 8's look better than size 2's. If that's a recent pic, you're lookin' pretty smokin' hot! (Don't tell my wife I said that... *L*)0

thank you that is sweet- That picture is from St pattys day- I am a size 10 I was a 16-18 and have worked really hard- I want to tone up yes maybe I dont need to lose 20lbs but that is what I have set for myself so far my original goal was to be a 10- I guess maybe I should put up some updated pics of what I look like now I dont think I have any I will have to dig around-- Thanks for the compliment0
