In July I made a mistake while doing squats for the first time with a bar and moving my head around etc.. I strained my neck muscle which made me sit out on lifting for a month.
Fast forward a month, I went to the gym today everything went fine expect I got a dull headache from holding my breath? >.<
doing fine I guess

Yeah you really have to focus of breathing when lifting. It sounds super dumb but for some reason our mind makes us want to hold our breath. Also if you time your breaths right and get more practice in it will actually help you lift more explosively.
Keep up the good work and stay safe!0 -
If you are having form troubles (such as the neck incident) and more recently breathing issue, you might want to drop the weight down and really concentrate on your form. Have you seen a personal trainer yet? It's really important you get down the basics before proceeding.Yeah you really have to focus of breathing when lifting. We instinctively hold our breaths because it creates more internal pressure while lifting. This helps to support our spine. However by do hard lifts while hold our breath we risk serious injury and death. That is why bodybuilders use the Valsalva Maneuver to keep the advantage of the internal pressure without risking ripping your retina.0
