i think im gonna get a broncho dialator from walgreens tonight see if that helps and try and get this pleghm out it may just be finals stress but i doubt that seeing as how it started during vacation week
Ok, so you have been given numerous ideas, very good ones in fact, each one of them was helpful. Members took time out to try and help you and steer you in the right direction, yet you ignored them all  :noway: and are now going to Walgreen's for an over the counter product? The longer you wait the sicker you can get the more costly it will be. It's not going to go away on it's own if it's Bronchitis or Pneumonia. The money you spend tonight at Walgreen's could go toward a clinic for a test and then you would REALLY know what was wrong for sure.

Working out will only make matters worse and certainly slow the healing process.. All this caring advice and it can get a wee bit frustrating that you've ignored it:huh:
  • Ugh buddy..

Just take a trip to the ER.. worry about the bill when it comes. If you end up getting hospitalized for this, it will end up being over 12,000$ a night. Trust me.

I had an appendicitis my first week in college, luckily I have health insurance. You're health is nothing to mess around with, or put a price on.

    1. What community college do you go to? Can you look online at the services available for students, including health clinic possibilities?

    2. Look in the phone book under local hospitals and see if there are any call-in nurse helplines at any of them. We have used that many times in the past when we weren't sure if we should see a doctor or what. (No insurance at the time, etc.)

    3. Call your family doctor, if you have one.

    4. Walk-in urgent care clinic is another option.

    5. ER, last resort, but there for a reason. Use it.

    Get better!
  • YOu could go to a minute clinic, or another outside clinic, and i normally pay $25 and whatever antibotics. Trust me your Dad isn't going to say anything about you going to the doctor escpecially if there is something relaly wrong, it is cheaper to deal with it now then later when your admitted into the hospital.....Go to the Doc!
  • Or like above said, when your at Walgreens they have a minute clinic in there, stop in there and have a doctor look at you. Trust me don't mess around with your health.

Look damnit! Whether you have insurance or not....go to the ER. They MUST treat you. The bill will come later. I do not want to see another comment on this thread by YOU, unless it's from your cell phone in the ER waiting room, or an update AFTER you've been treated. from a stranger.

How about an urgent care or campus health center? I'm not a doc, but sounds like pneumonia. Please don't push yourself. Get checked. Oh, and did I mention--get checked. Let us know what's going on.

Go see a doctor, even if you have to go to the ER. It is much easier for them to treat you if the problem has not gone systemic and you can walk in under your own power. Ambulances cost a lot! Sounds like pneumonia to me, and I would know, I get it every couple of years.

You had better be at the ER. Let us know if we need to take up a collection to help pay for things!

As a dad, even when times were tough, providing for my kids was priority #1. You aren't making a sniffle into a mountain. Give your dad some credit and talk to him.
  • I agree, you are getting all this caring advise and not taking heed. Pneumonia is very serious, more people are dying from it each day. Not just the older ones but the younger healthy ones.

i go to a community college i doubt they have **** and my dads going through a rough time with his bussiness im trying to spend as little of his money is possible because he is paying for my college and stuff half the reason im working out is to join the reserves so i can pay him back and not feel guilty i mean if its just the flu i dont wanna waste money should i just watch it for a few more days and see?

I also go to a community college, and pay fees for the health clinic on campus...... check yours out. If it's flu, they can tell you. If you need more serious help, they can refer you.

Okay, here's the deal. You could have a number of things wrong with you. Listen to what others have been trying to tell you and go to the doctor/ER. I am a California State Certified Pharmacy Technician and can tell you that OTC medications are not going to help you and can possibly make your problem worse. SELF-MEDICATING IS NOT GOING TO WORK ON THIS ONE!!!!

I too, went to a community college here in California. There was an on-campus clinic that actually had better doctors than some of the major hospitals here in So Cal.

Now for the financial info. Do not worry about NOT having insurance. When you walk into an ER, they MUST treat you. You will be asked for insurance info and if you do not have any, you will be asked to complete an application for your state's Medi-caid. Here in California, it is called Medi-Cal. It is for people that have no insurance and do not have the means to pay for treatment. If you do not qualify for Medi-caid, you can then apply for MIA status. This is Medically Indigent Adult. This is a program that is for people that do not qualify for Medi-caid, Medicare (US Governement insurance), or for private health insurance (such as being on your parents' insurance). The MIA program will assist you with your medical bills.

Being a "poor college student" is an absolute CRAP line for not getting to a doctor. I had pneumonia in 2007. I BS's my way through it with OTC meds and not being able to breathe. When I finally did go to the doctor, I had to fight him to NOT admit me ASAP to the hospital. After a chest X-ray, he discovered that my lungs were half full of fluid and he was amazed that I was still getting any air at all into my lungs. You need to realize that your body NEEDS air to function. By not being able to breathe properly, you are robbing your vital organs of much needed oxygen, your blood cells of oxygen and most importantly, your BRAIN!!!!

I don't mean to sound mean, harsh, or pretend that I know it all, but you really need to not worry about money and take care of yourself!!!!

Sounds like pneumonia or bronchitis and you should really be going to your campus clinic if you don't have student insurance.

Just don't die of young, stupid pride, OK? Take this seriously. If anything gets worse between now and your appointment tomorrow, go to the ER.

OK team, he's in Texas, shall we all meet there to escort him to the doctor tomorrow?
  • Oh heck he's in austin. I'm on my way to get him as we speak. Where are you dude? I'm driving around the UT campus trying to find you. Is that the right school at least. Wave a little flag or something. I don't see him y'all. We may be too late. OK, I'm going to check all the ACC campuses next. Oh wait. He's 19. He won't be awake for hours. I'm a silly old man.

I hope you find a good Dr. In reality that will be as difficult as getting there or paying for it. Good luck and best wishes.

Sounds a lot like how I felt when I had pneumonia. If you don't get checked out by the doctor, you could end up in the hospital. that will cost you much much more. Go to the doctor.

Dude, I came here late and don't really need to say anything more that what has been said, but I just want to impress upon you that you won't need to worry about mooching and taxes if you die because of this....so swallow your pride and make sure you are seen at the doctors!

The indigent status does not last forever. Your issue, if not treated, could result in LIFE LONG problems!!! Problems like, pleurisy, loss of alveoli, loss of bronchial tissue, brain damage (from lack of oxygen), the need for a lung transplant and DEATH. How are you going to pay for all those? If you, God forbid, do develop any othese complications, you WILL BE FORCED TO DECLARE DISABILITY AND NOT BE ABLE TO WORK FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE!!!!! And that would require you to be on Medicare and/or Medi-caid.

Get over yourself and think about the consequences of your decision NOW. Conditions like these would make it practically impossible to continue school (would you like to walk around everywhere with an oxygen tank?), if/when you do have children you would not be able to run and play with them do to your condition....do you see where I'm going with this???

Please, stop being so hard headed and listen to what the doctor tells you to do.

Seriousy, if you were my son, I'd have to smack you right about now.:explode: You are the stubborn one!

lol thats why ive kept with weight loss haha and thanks alot guys atleast i know if post something stupid on the forum people will look and not say anything but when i post something concerning me you guys are always their thanks alot it means a ton to me  :drinker:

OK, so you got all sorts of attention, which now seems apparently more what this post was about, needing attention? Consider yourself nurtured, now look at all the ppl you've pulled into this and you've still chosen not to take the wise advise.:ohwell: You end up worrying ppl that truly care when all the power of the decision is in your hands and your hands only. We're all adults here and we all have our 'stuff' to deal with, so time to man up and Deal!:frown:

Spending time on a website when all you needed to really do is check in at a free clinic to see if indeed you do need antibiotics could have been done and over by now. It's great to get some needed attention and nurturing but the greatest of all is when we mature and find it with ourselves to care about and for ourselves.

I hope you get far more out of this NOW 3+ page thread than a bottle of pills but a life lesson that others can care for you but not DO IT for you!:noway:

No chit, it's far more costly to be stubborn and not get the help needed in the end Dad will end up paying for it when you end up in the hospital or else us tax payers will. Ppl not going to docs when needed doesn't save tax payers money it ends up costing us far MORE!:grumble: :ohwell:

This website is about so much more than losing weight and getting fit, it's about becoming healthier in mind body and emotionally learning to care better for ourselves.

@ HealthyChanges Hear, hear  That's what I've been trying to say.

@ the OP Brutal honesty time. You came onto a website full of people that are dealing with daily struggles asking for help. They all offered advice, time, and a pure sense of caring for you and your situation. They have even given you tools and/or ideas of ways to help yourself, yet your answer is to ignore us all and be stubborn and hard-headed. Heck, there were even people posting that they would PAY for your treatment and/or DRIVE you to a clinic near your campus. Yet you still reply that you don't want to get yourself treated. That is pretty much a slap in the face to all of us that took the time to respond to YOUR request and offer advice/help.

Remember that little story about the boy who cried wolf? Kinda relates here.

As HealthyChanges said, I hope you found the attention you so craved, but evenmore, I hope you went to a doctor and got yourself treated.

Being sick for a little while is bothersome, but being sick for the rest of your life is horrible.

aren't there medical students on campus? or some sort of "practice" facility...go the profs and tell them you feel like you're dying and you're broke! Again DAMN THE UNITED STATES HEALTH SYSTEM! I can't believe you can't go to the ER because you can't afford it! so you're just suppose to sit there and suck it up while Donald Trump gets the cadillac of new hips? it's disgusting! and Alberta is going to be right behind you! Move to france man, they take care of their citizens
