Amazing. I just read an older post regarding getting enough fiber. One person wrote that she eats Fiber One Bars and apples and they really help her stay regular (yes it's gross - constipation was being discussed but we are all humans and this happens to all of us!).

Well, I don't eat Fiber One Bars due to the sugar content in them. But I love apples. I have IBS and since I've been eating more fruits/veggies I've been pretty regular. It's been wonderful! Well, I have slacked on my fruit this week and have been constipated since Monday.

I ate an apple today. Within an hour I had to go! Now I know not to miss my apple a day!

Oh and I don't go by what MFP says. They have me on 14g per day and with my IBS that just won't work so I up it to around 25g per day.

I hear you. Even with all the fruit & veggies I eat, I still have those problems. (I suspect our gastrointestinal system slows when we eat fewer calories--anyone know if that is true?) In addition to eating 2-3 servings of fruit, I have 1-2 large salads and 2-3 cups of cooked veggies every day. I still need to take a fiber supplement! I wish the apples did it for me. I'm glad they do it for you.
  • I also have a ton of digestive issues. If I don't drink a TON of water or eat my yogurt every day then it's not good. I brought an apple today so we'll see how that sits. They tend to give me Acid Reflux.

I too have IBS and recently have been trying the apple thing (small world). It has helped a little but I think I need to eat more apples &/or add even more water.

Thank you for sharing...there are those of us out there that are struggling and curious.

I haven't formally been diagnosed with IBS but I am Gluten Intolerant and have had major problems with constipation. I started watching what I eat and I too eat an apple a day and it sure works for me!! I missed a couple days last week and let me tell you my stomach was sore and I felt so full in my chest. I was uncomfortable to say the least. I started eating my apple a day again this week and my bowels are working fantastically again!! An apple a day really does keep the doctor away!

Try organic. My husband has the same problem. We think it has to do with the wax on the skin, although we could be wrong. If he eats organic though, there are no problems!

I don't know but my logic tells me yes it slows down. I know mine is slow (this is gross) from foods that don't quite digest. I do eat Fiber One Original most mornings becaues the 14g of fiber is wonderful. But with only 60 calories a bowl I've been trying to find more calorie dense breakfast foods. I'm having a very hard time hitting 1200 calories per day.

I always eat an apple a day as a snack and didn't realize how much it "moves" me until the long holiday weekend! I won't do that to myself again. Fiber is your friend!!
