Oat date bars

I Just tried this recipe which I got from the whole foods website , 100 calories for a bar!
My dates weren't that sweet so I think I might add a mashed banana or some honey next time. I topped mine off with a bit of shredded coconut. I think they would be great with some chocolate chips or nuts. Think I might use dried apricot instead of dates next time and see how they turn out!
Ingredients:
2/3 cup chopped pitted dates, divided
1/2 cup water
1 large egg
1 1/4 cup quick-cooking oats
1/2 cup whole wheat flour
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon plus 1/8 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
Method:
Preheat oven to 375°F/190c and grease an 8 x 8-inch baking pan. In a blender, combine 1/3 cup of the dates and water; blend until very smooth. Add egg and blend just until combined. In a medium bowl, combine oats, flour, cinnamon, baking powder and salt and whisk until combined. Add date-and-water mixture and remaining 1/3 cup chopped dates; stir until moistened.
Scrape into prepared pan, level the top with a spatula, and bake until firm and lightly browned around the edges, about 17 minutes. Cool in the pan and cut into 10 bars. Bars keep in an airtight container for about a week. They can also be individually wrapped and frozen until ready to eat; allow about 2 hours for them to thaw.

That looks great and hopefully my kids would eat them. Think I'll try it with figs instead of dates. What is the texture like?0

Looks yummy. But the first thing that came to mind reading the name was "Fruity Oaty Bars" from Joss Wheden's "Serenity".0

Cake like, I hardly noticed the oats, it's not chewy that's for sure. You could add some applesauce for a bit of moisture I guess. But I liked them fine.
Think they'd taste with figs!0 -
I wonder how they would be with a scoop of protein powder...0
