I exercise all the time but I yo-yo diet. Who's with me? I get up EVERY day, hike with the dog, hit the gym, or do some other kind of exercise. But I can't diet for longer than a week before I inhale half a pizza two klondike bars. How do I conquer the hateful urge to stuff my face?

Don't diet. Just eat whatever you want ... but moderately. PORTION CONTROL is key. I still eat pizza, have a chocolate bar, eat popcorn, have a piece of cake etc. I just make sure it fits into my calories. Work with your calories for the day to make room for what you like/want. Letting yourself have things you enjoy eating, but having smaller portions is so much easier0

Have one day a week where you can eat WHATEVER you want. But the very next day, get back on track with working out and a good clean diet. You'll be amazed at how well that actually works.0

I'm the same way, I grew up in a family that always had junk food around so it's taken me awhile to adjust to not having it around. I still struggle with it. I still eat some of the same stuff just try and limit it. Two slices of pizza instead of trying to finish the whole thing and saving a slice for breakfast. The trick I'm still working on is implementing healthy food into tastes I like.0

it's not a dieeet. nononono. just stop stuffing your face, piggy. :-P haha. not really.
Portion control is right. I've been doing this a few months now. I still sometimes slip. I had FOUR piece of pizza last night, instead of TWO. That meant I was almost up ONE WHOLE kilogram (almost 2lbs) over night. yep. baaaad pizza.
in the back of your mind always remember, what is more important, the pizza or the healthy living?0 -

I have lost all of my weight following a simple rule. Exercise for more calories than I eat. If I want pizza or a few beers after dinner, I hit the gym hard that day. If I want to slack, then I don't get to eat the fun stuff. I would bet that my calorie log contains more beer between June and August than anyone on this site and I still averaged losing 3.3 lbs a week. I just did 1000-2000 calories a day of exercise.0

I agree with 'uptopargolf': Have a day per week when you can eat what you want.
The rest of the week, eat what you want, just count the calories. No reason you cant have steak! And there are many low cal options on the ice cream front. I have an ice lolly or ice cream every day! Check out Weight Watchers stuff, tastes good!
With all that exercise, you should have a pretty good calorie base to eat pretty much what you want, just in moderation.
Basically, I think the trick is to not feel deprived.
Good luck :flowerforyou:0 -

Agreed. If you tell yourself you can't have the things you like then you're more likely to fail. Allowing yourself to have those things but in smaller portions is the key to achieving long term success. Also, instead of making whole bunch of changes at the same time, try making one change a week. For example, next week you could try including 1 green vegetable with your dinner every day.0 -
I'm the same way! I LOVE exercise especially weight training and have been active even as I've gained a lot of weight...but only because I ate more then I burned...so far I AM eating what I want here at MFP (trust me, my daily entries are not "clean" at all) and as long as I eat less then I burn I'm losing!!! Now that I've just been tracking for a bit I am starting to want to clean my food up some but I am taking it one step at a time!
You can do this - this site is a great place to start!0 -
This is sooooo me. I agree with all the comments about portion control and eating what you want but in moderation. I have also found since I've been really mindful of what I am eating that some foods that I previously loved just aren't calorie worthy anymore. It becomes a game to see how much stuff I can eat with the same allotment of calories. I read an analogy on here about comparing your calorie total to money and deciding how you want to spend that money that day. Sure, you can have a pizza, but that's it. Is that pizza now worth it? Take it slowly and believe me it works!0

Great advice, especially the stuff about the cheat day and portion control. THANKS!0
