Indian Takeaway Options

Meeting with a friend for an Indian tomorrow evening and looking for healthy options please?
I usually go for the creamy options such as tikka masala, korma, rogan josh.
What would be less calorific but tasty?
Thanks.

The last few times I've had chicken patia / pathia. Its a bit like sweet and sour but not as heavy and very spicy. TBH, not sure if its lower in calories though!

Stay away from anything with a cream based sauce.

Tomato based sauces are the best options (balti, madras), or no sauce - chicken tandoori or a biryani.

Go for chicken, veg or seafood options as less calories than the red meat options.

Poppadoms have significantly less calories than naan breads (not quite as tasty though!) and always, always boiled rice instead of fried or pilau.

    Beef Madras.

Not sure how calorie light it'll be, but defo one of the finest dishes ever created.

Palak paneer has cheese and whatnot, but it is primarily spinach-based. It's also very filling.

Vegetable curries aren't the worst either. They're typically made with coconut milk. Where you do the damage is adding on yoghurt, rice, and naan to temper the heat.

I suggest the veggie with cashew nuts, or perhaps the okra, yummy but not saucy! Also, agreed on the tandoori options - I really like paneer tikka! If you do go for a sauce, go for the tomato and onion based ones instead of the creamy ones.

Kind of already been said, but like chinese take away food the drier dishes tend to be leaner on fats and calories just because there is no cream or ghee in them.

But in essence don't cut your nose off to spite your tastebuds, factor it into your calorie intake.

Indian food is my absolute favourite. I make it healthier by doing the following:

Choose Chicken Tikka or Tandoori Chicken over a curry.
Eat less of the sauce and choose a tomato-based sauce if given the option.
Swap fried rice for boiled rice.
Ask for an undressed side salad
Swap naan bread for chapati, or no bread at all.
Avoid deep fried items such as pakoras, samosas and onion bhaji.
    Drink water instead of beer.
ETA: watch out for the poppadoms, they are so moreish!

Tandoori Chicken or Chicken Tikka which is my favorite. Chicken Tikka is the same as the tandoori chicken, but just the breast and boneless chunks. I usually get that with a side of raita.

Def chicken tikka or tandori chicken - no sauce = fewer calories.
My no 1 tip is to have a chapati instead of naan. I LOVE naan bread but it's not even slightly diet friendly :-) Chapatis wrapped around pieces of chicken are very tasty, so try one and see what you think.

Thank you everyone :) Some great tips and advice.

I've decided to try chicken tikka, chapatti (even though I've no idea what it is!) and a mint sauce for something to dip tikka into :)

Yum, is it 6pm yet :)
