Why am I craving sugar?

I feel like I need to eat it just out of the jar with a spoon. I've been keeping myself from doing so ALL day. Then I had two teaspoons, and hoped the craving would go away. But it doesn't. :-/

Can you work in something sweet into your diet everyday? A scoop of ice cream, a couple of candies, a cookie, whatever. I find having something sweet once a day instead of depriving myself will help me be much more successful.

Also fat. Eat fat to satisfy.

I did actually eat a chocolate today. And I still want it. It's not even a craving for any sweet dessert. Just straight up brown sugar.
  • Because sugar is highly addicting. You are setting yourself up for failure if you are trying to cut it out completely and too fast.
I always crave something sweet after a meal and I find that eating a spoonful of peanut butter helps me. Also, dark chocolate. Try to cut it out slowly and you will have more success.
    Good luck!

I like to add a tablespoon of brown sugar to a serving of oatmeal with a little honey and a green apple chopped up in there. This could be a way to get some of that delicious brown sugar you're craving?

Also, I used to get crazy cravings for sweet things and I would buy a bag of Hershey Kisses and limit myself to 3 throughout the day while at work. It worked pretty good :-) Good luck!

I agree. I always always want something sweet after I eat. instead of eating it all day I just eat it after dinnertime when I want it the most. even then sometimes I want more. I know the feeling. take it one day at a time. you didn't get this way in a day

Google sugar cravings and vitamin/mineral deficiencies.
  • Eating sugar makes you crave sugar. So when I start slipping up I have to taper down and then switch over to sweet n lo in my coffee, and have that or a piece of fruit whenever I get cravings. And eventually those subside and I can eat low carb again.

It's probably just a mental thing. Ignore it. Or if you really want, have a spoonful of sugar (sounds kind of ugh, though--it was my family's remedy for hiccups) and log it. There aren't that many calories. Edit: oh, I see you did already. I'd ignore it, then. If you find it a special treat, maybe save it from some particular time of day and have a spoonful or two--teach yourself that's the treat.

But just because you want to eat something doesn't mean you have to. Usually if I'm thinking about some food I can channel my thoughts to something else or it goes away once I'm not hungry or stressed or whatever is going on. If you find yourself struggling with cravings more often maybe think about journaling so you get a sense of when and perhaps the underlying reasons.

I do this too!!! I stopped eating it out of the jar and only let myself eat it on an apple or banana now. I think the sugar in the fruit helps me feel satisfied when I'm done, instead of wanting more PB!
