Calories and bfing?

Hi! So I just had a baby two months ago (9weeks yesterday<3) and Im nursing him. My intake is 1700 calories/day. To me that sounds like enough, but I wanted to be sure. I thought fluids play a bigger part than food when nursing anyways? (Not saying that food isn't important, just that fluids are more so?) Thoughts? Should I just try it and see how it works out? Maybe ask his ped, at his apt on Wednesday? I used to be doing a 1300 cal diet before I was pregnant with him, so Ive upped it by just over 400 calories (My daily is like 1700-something)
