Hey!
I'm a 22 year old, university student.
I'm not really overweight , just incredibly unhealthy and unfit. I'm a Greek South African and my life revolves around food. It's my reward and guilt source. Every time I try to get healthy diet wise my family puts me down and everyone gets angry and starts crying because they assume I'm suddenly anorexic, which I'm not - I love food just want to eat the right things! So they try sabotage me buying me huge slabs of chocolate or guilting me into eating a second serving of really rich Greek food.. It's just really frustrating not to have support from friends and family. My streaks of healthiness usually go like this 4 days of exercise and eating right followed by a month of over or under-eating and tons of chocolate and sitting in front of the PC.
I'm hoping with a little support from people who are in a similar boat to me I'll finally be able to make myself happy, proud and healthy.

I can imagine that must be really difficult! I understand that food is very important in some cultures, and your family may unconsciously worry that your rejection of it is a rejection of them. Maybe you could have some sort of sneaky compromise - eat some of the foods they want you to in moderation, and don't tell them your "evil plan" to rip the family apart by not everything shoved in front of you!? If they wont' let go of it, you'll have to make it very clear that you love them, and their food, but your choice to not eat everything they think you should is your decision, be strong and firm, and let them know it does not mean anything personal. For the record, plenty of Greek food has the potential to be healthy - check out the primal/paleo philosophies (not strict, just look at the basic premise and see if you can adapt it to work for your situation), as well as the Mediterranean diet. I would bet that a combo of these two might really work for you, AND get the relatives off your back about what you eat. Maybe not how much... but then again, if they see you scarf down a whole chicken and half a primal cheesecake in one sitting (high protein, low carb), maybe it will0
