Aches & pains

I've been working out everyday since I started my weight loss challenge. But today my thighs are so achey. Even walking up and down the stairs is really painful and bending down to sit on the toilet. Is this normal?

You must have gone to the same strength training class I went to! The instructor in this class made us kneel down, put our hands behind our heads, and then get up (it's called "surrender"). We did these for 45 seconds then would do several other exercises, than do those again. Of course, we also did the usual lunges, squats, etc. Anyway, I got up yesterday and could barely climb stairs and yes, first thing in the morning, sitting on the loo is a challenge. It's Thursday, and I'm still living on naproxen. While I realize folks need to be pushed in training, we should be able to basic daily activities two days after a workout.

That's happened to me before when I've had a tough workout the day before, it makes going to the bathroom such a chore and I literally fall onto the toilet.

How many days have you been working out? I feel like you should have a rest day, at least. You don't want to push yourself too hard. Especially if you're doing weight training, your muscles need time to relax.

This is probably DOMS, Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness - pain and stiffness felt in muscles several hours to days after unaccustomed or strenuous exercise.

Basically, you did more exercise than you are used to and your muscles are sore from it. It'll go away, just keep plugging along. And yes, it's normal.

If you worked your legs hard in the last couple day, yes, it could be normal. I've had leg workouts that left me needing support from the counter/bathtub to get on & off the toilet  If it just feels like muscle soreness, take some ibupfrofen. A bath with Epsom salts is supposed to help too - I've just started using Epsom salts, so I'm not 100% positive it works yet.

Light cardio can help muscle soreness too. Start off walking, then move up to a slow jog. It will be a bit painful at first, but as your blood gets flowing it will help loosen things up. Lay off any hard leg workouts for a day or two to give yourself a break.

But if there is any sharp pain or swelling anywhere (especially in a joint) I would say take a full rest day (or more), and possibly even go see your doctor.

You're working out every day, but what is your stretching and mobility work like? Maybe you should work-in a day off, you're not going to gain weight back if your nutrition is on-point.
