....during the ad breaks that you do little bits of exercises as well as your normal workout?
For example, doing sit ups in one break, doing push ups in another. Or would it just be too much?
I have an office job and am sat most of the day. I do walk to and from work, about hour and half altogether, then I do about 40 mins workout.
I really dont think that I would feel overtrained, because obviously the ad breaks are not very long.
What do people think?
Thanks, Rach

Do whatever is going to work for you. Personally, I think it's a great idea to get in short bursts of exercise during commercials. If you start to get too sore or anything, scale back, otherwise I say go for it.0

My opinion is any bit of exercise helps, I have a desk job too, i work from 8 - 5
and it sucks, my back, legs, thighs hurt if i sit too long.
at first i thought it was my exercise routine in the 4 am morning, but now i am starting to believe its the sitting, when i start feeling the pain i get up walk in place, or walk to rr and back.
I try to do anything possible to keep moving, sitting too long hurts.
Hope this helps, but i think you are doing good for yourself if you have time to add in breaks of exercise.0 -
I don't think it can hurt...If you feel sore, then yes...I do 30-60 minutes of cardio most days, but after that, my husband is ready for dinner. So, I find it easier to do my "work out" during the ads. Your muscles will get the rest and the work out they need over a longer stretch of time.0

Do situps one day and pushups the next. You don't want to do either of these exercises 2 days in a row.0

Sounds like a great idea to me, I don't think you need to worry about overtraining by doing this. It will keep you from watching all those food ads also.
When I was a kid, I had a friend whose Dad was a dentist. He had a bag of brand new toothbrushes. If we wanted to watch TV, we had to grab a brush, dampen it, and brush our teeth while watching. I thought that was a brilliant way to turn something that wasn't so good for us into something that was much better for us. You'd be doing the same thing here.0 -
I totally do stuff like this. I consider it 'gravy' and don't count it. For example, I'm constantly clenching my stomach muscles when I sit at my desk (or when I sit ever, really). I take laps around my entire office just to get to the water cooler which is a few cubes away. I never combine trips (i.e: I get my water, return to my desk, go to the ladies room, return to my desk, go and refill my coffee cup). I take the stairs.
It all adds up. Even if it's only 50 calories extra burned/day, that's an extra 350 calories/week!!! That's a pretty decent workout that I didn't even really notice I did

To add to the list of stealth excercises, I always park far away from the door, stairs instead of elevator or escalator, top instead of bottom :blushing:0

Ok thanks everyone. Obviously I will not be using any weights, just body weight stuff, so wont be getting any doms but as someone said, it all adds up.
Plus at this time of year, I need to burn as many cals as I can because it will be so hard to stay away from stuff all the time!
Happy burning! (cals that is not anything else!)
